Dr. Gerald Ira Hurowitz, MD

Very arrogant doctor, just wants to throw more and more meds on you,dosent listen what the patient has to say, thinks he knows how you feel better than you know how your feeling, dosent respond to emails or to phone calls. Is very expensive compared to much better psychiatrists.

As another reviewer noted, Hurowitz “neither appreciates nor honors patients' privacy.” Wish I had seen the review before trying to see Hurowitz. His incompetence and breach of his duties to his patient’s borders on criminal! Avoid him!

This doctor totally put me in jeopardy. It started in the hospital where he decided to put me on provigil . I got extremely agitated confused and paranoid on it and he refused to accept that it was doing that to me saying “how do you know it’s the provigil?” even tho the resident saw it and put me on an antipsychotic to quell what it was doing to me. The antipsychotic worked and once I went off the provigil I was no longer in that stare which proved that it was related to the provigil yet he still wouldn’t accept it and tried to get me to stay on it. I would have ended up in a state hospital if I took his advice. The scary thing is that because he has seniority at the hospital the resident ceased all clinical observation and he somehow seduced her into believing that it had nothing to do with the provigil even after she saw what happened and how when I went off it I was no longer in a dangerous state. I moronically decided to continue to see him and he put me on strattera and the same… thing happened and he was again non responsive to it and I had to take matters into my own hands and go off it and take low dose anti psychotics that’s I had laying around so I didn’t end up locked up somewhere. He totally gas lighted me instead of being responsive to what was happening. I was so upset about his behavior years later I emailed him to tell him what happened and why I was so upset. His only response was “all I can say is I don’t see things the way you do” . Horrible dangerous clinician.

Exceptionally talented and compassionate doctor. Makes himself very available and has always been there for me in times of crisis. He has an incredible memory for things you've told him and medications that you have taken. Truly caring and very, very smart.

He is supportive, caring and excellent at diagnosing and treating mood disorders.

Really can't say enough to convey how on the mark & totally there for you Dr. Hurowitz always is. Great diagnostician. Will spend time on phone with you. Great upbeat personality. Leave his office feeling like you have a new lease on life. Very special. Not like any other "shrink" who has problems himself. Dr. H is truly a find. Gave me my life back. His secy is tops too.

I have been a patient for many years and after several misdiagnoses from other psychiatrists, he correctly dx and tx my bipolar disorder. Always friendly, courteous and respectful. Available for questions phone or email. Respected by his peers.
