great neurologist. takes time to explain things and very thorough. highly recommend him!

I'm a stubborn patient and often refuse what I consider to be overtesting and overtreatment, which is rampant in the medical community. I have a primary care provider who respects my frequent refusals to have the usual battery of screening tests performed, because I'm well aware of the lack of scientific evidence to support such screening tests. I understand that this can be exasperating for some doctors. However, it is wonderful to have a doctor who respects patient choice and "shared decision making." Dr Kuffner, humorously prods me to move forward, but he only pushes enough so that I'm aware of my options, and then he backs off, giving me the space to feel respected when I say no. (This is a bit nicer than the doctor who "fired" me when I declined a screening test he recommended.) Kudos to Dr Kuffner for the thoughtful way he handles shared decision making.

I have been very happy with my care under Dr. Kufner. He is a very nice man and he will intently listen to your concerns and work with you to give you the best treatment for your condition. In my case I was also in need of a referral to a second specialist to handle another aspect of my treatment. Dr. Kufner's referral allowed me to get in to see one of the top speciaists in the country. This top specialist was very impressed with how quickly Dr. Kufner accurately diagnosed a challenging condition at early onset and put me on the best medication for it right away, which was a new protocol that had only been published in the Neurological medical journals within the previous month or so. The 2nd specialist said that obviously Dr. Kufner "knows his stuff and he obviously keeps up with the latest Neuro journals and research". Most people with my condition get bounced around and misdiagnosed over and over with all different types of conditions since this one is very difficult to… diagnose and treat. All this time the neurological condition spreads unabated and unresponsive to the cocktail of meds you have been prescribed. I was able to get my case under "control" -since there us no cure- and limit it's spread due to Dr. Kufner's knowledge of Neurology and reading up on the latest research, and his willingness to make a referral for a challenging case. I am very happy and grateful that I made the decision to see Dr. Kufner and I have referred many others to him as well.

I have been going to Dr. Kufner since 1999, when I was first dx with MS. I will follow him if he ever leaves Kingston Neuro Assoc. He is wonderful! He listens, he informs, he cares! I feel he truly cares and looks out for his patient's best interest. I never feel rushed during my time with him. He takes as much time as you need (within reason). I trust him with all I've got! He advises the next time to see him and it is scheduled before you leave his office. His staff is awesome too!
