Dr. Gerald Toshimi Ujiki, MD

In 2021 I am remembering that I met Dr. Ujiki when I arrived in Northwestern Hospital Emergency in 1982 for an Appendectomy. That was an easy surgery. Very painful thereafter. But Dr. Ujiki was wonderful and I was fine after that experience. Then in 1983, I had to be rushed to Northwestern Hospital Emergency again, because I was in a toxic situation and had a grave infection involved with my Gallbladder. Had to wait for surgery to get the infection under control. My Gall bladder was enlarged inside my Liver. I was informed that I was a textbook case. I remember being so ill, and before I came in, had regurgitated this Peritonitis green bile through my Eustachian tube into my middle ear canal, and out through my nose, which resulted in me being immediately dizzy, as the poisonous infection had disrupted my Vestibular nerves, which are not working, and I have Bilateral Vestibulopathy still today (that is another story, and no one wants this). I am 70 now and it has calmed down,… but still a nuisance. I just wanted to thank Dr. Ujiki for his care, his professionalism, and great personality and bedside manner. He is the best surgical doctor I have had! Will be looking for him if I have any other problems. Thank you Dr. Ujiki for keeping me alive - from Ms. Hill.

Dr. Ujiki was my surgeon when I was 20 years old when I had a fibroadenoma. He did a great job making the scar seemless. So 27 years later when I got breast cancer it was a no brainer to go to him again. He was caring and thoughtful in the process. He could have just done a mastecomy, but sent me to a oncologist to see if we could shrink the tumor first prior so it would just be a lumpectomy surgery. I was lucky enough to get a lumpectomy. Unfortunately, for other patients he is retiring this month. He will be missed around the hospital.

Had a personal experience as Gerry performed a procedure. I never even sat down when I arrived for my first appointment, as his staff recognized my arrival, promptly took my coat, and was led into a room with an assistant. Runs his practice like a clock, very efficient and courteous. As a side note, Gerry personally took a relative of mine's case when another doctor was not performing as expected. Honorable!

Dr. Ujiki did my gall bladder surgery several years ago (two days before Thanksgiving) and it couldn't have gone better. (Laughing during Thanksgiving dinner was a little hard.) My husband had a hernia surgery a few months ago and things went just as well. Dr. Ujiki is kind as well as skilled.
