After graduating in 1978 from Colgate University, Dr. Gerard Varlotta attended Medical School at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. From his Orthopedic Research Internship in Sweden to his training in Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington and NYU/Rusk Institute, Dr. Varlottas postdoctoral training is quite extensive. At the NYU School of Medicine, Dr. Varlotta was first appointed as the Clinical Instructor (1992 1998), moved to into a new role as a Clinical Assistant Professor (1998 2004) and then in 2004 was promoted to being a Clinical Associate Professor.In 1991, the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine presented Dr. Varlotta with the Resident Research Award. Then, in 2010, the Staten Island College, Dept. of Physical Therapy awarded Dr. Varlotta with the Educators Award. Dr. Varlotta is an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine (Fellow), the Physiatric Association of Spine Sports Occupational Rehab, the North American Spine …Society, the American Academy of PM&R (Fellow), the American Board of Pain Medicine (Fellow), the US Olympic Medical Committee, the Association of Ringside Physicians, as well as the Association of Ringside Physicians.

Dr. Varlotta has been treating me for a couple of years. I had spine surgery in 2009 by a well known spine specialist. It was successful until it wasn’t. Dr. Varlotta has been and is successful in helping me eliminate pain from several sources. He’s a very talented person and a nice guy. Highly recommended.

Six years ago I casually encountered Dr Varlotta in my orthopedic surgeon's office. The required spine surgery couldn't be done in the local hospital. I was not a patient of his at the time but he asked, "Could I borrow your discs for a week? Every Tuesday I have coffee with a group of guys to discuss interesting cases." He referred me to a team using the latest advanced hardware and procedures. Crimenently. Not enough space to type everything I have to say. This guy is a straight shooter.

Only good things to say about Dr Varlotta. I will continue seeing him for my issues; he attacks your pain as if it were his own. Ruth at the front desk is also a major help to me and is alway professional and soft spoken. The referrals he’s provided are also first-rate.
