Dr. Germaine Marie Blaine, MD

Two years ago, I came down with a respiratory infection after a hurricane hit. I went to the hospital where they performed a CT scan of my lungs and found some swollen lymph nodes. They admitted me overnight and had a few doctors look at me. Dr. Blaine was the oncologist they sent in. During my time in the hospital, she checked for swollen lymph nodes in my neck and asked if I was anemic, I said yes, as I was vegetarian. They kept my in the hospital for 37 hours without doing anything, and because I'm a type one diabetic, a mother, and a manager at my job, and NO doctor could find anything wrong with me other than swollen lymph nodes, I discharged myself . They set up an appt with Dr. Blaine for me a few weeks later. When I showed up, I had my husband, and my then two year old son with me. Since my hospital visit, I had had no blood work or any other testing or scans done. When Dr. Blaine came into the room, she asked why I discharged myself. I said, "Nobody was doing anything… for me, and I felt like a hospital was pretty much the worst place for me. I'm feeling much better now, and honestly just want to have another scan done to see if my lungs are improving." She snapped at me and said, "How dare you! You are a mother and a wife! You need to be willing to accept the fact that you probably have lymphoma and take this way more seriously!" I said how could you possibly say it's lymphoma when I have NO other symptoms, and you haven't performed any tests on me. She was so rude, so obnoxious, and so unprofessional. She asked my genetic background. I told her, and her response was, "Oh god, that is horrible. Your body is basically a breeding ground for disease and genetic disorders. No wonder you have so many health issues." She said she would see me back in FOUR MONTHS to do another scan of my chest and in the meantime, if my symptoms gets worse, go back to the hospital. I ended up going to a different oncologist as well as a pulmonologist. They were both baffled by the comments made by Dr. Blaine, and asked why she didn't immediately assume I had Sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disorder that affects lymph nodes. My oncologist at that time performed a biopsy and discovered it was, indeed, Sarcoidosis. I had spent four months after seeing Dr. Blaine thinking I might have lymphoma. My step son, who had already lost his mother to cancer, spent four months believing I probably had cancer. Not only this, but when I tried to be cordial and ask Dr. Blaine how she was, she was very abrupt and acted like I had no right to make conversation with her. This was THE WORST experience I had ever had with a doctor. Any doctor who would even suggest that you have cancer without performing the appropriate tests before hand deserves to have their medical license revoked.

Very though, knowledgeable, pleasant,A very, very nice person.

My dad saw her for the first time in hospital and she was very blunt and showed no compassion. I let it go at that time but we saw her in her office few days later and I could not believe the way she would explain things to my dad. I understand she works in a field that not always has a good out come but when you take away all hope and just basically tell you to go home and die this is horrible. The 2 times we came to her office we left feeling angry and hurt by the way we was spoken too. I see a lot of people like her on this page but I would not take my dog to her......

After very disappointing visits with my other drs, my visit with Dr Blaine exceeded every expectation I could possibly have. She & her staff are logical, compassionate, efficient, using both technical knowledge and common sense. Amazing!
