Dr. Gharanai Abdullah Payind, MD

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my recent experience with this physician was alarming enough that I feel a responsibility to warn others. I was admitted to Observation at the hospital and had been waiting for several hours without any updates about who was overseeing my care. When this physician entered the room, I expected a simple explanation. Instead, he immediately began yelling at me, accusing me of being upset about pain medication — even though my question was only about who my attending provider was. As a patient, this was already frightening. As a healthcare employee familiar with professional standards, it was shocking. He is a very tall man, and he stood over me while raising his voice, which felt intimidating, unnecessary, and completely disproportionate to the situation. His behavior was so out of control that security — who were already nearby — had to step in and tell him to cool down because he was the one escalating the situation. Bedside staff did not attempt… to intervene or de-escalate. This entire encounter was extremely upsetting and triggering for me, especially as someone who lives with cPTSD. No patient should ever experience that type of treatment from a provider. I sincerely hope he receives additional training on professional conduct and trauma-informed care, because his behavior during my encounter fell far below the standard that patients deserve. If you are a patient here, please advocate for yourself and speak up if something feels wrong. No one should be talked to the way I was.
