Dr. Gihan K Wetzel, DO

Took my girlfriend to the ER in horrible abdominal pain. She has a recent history of ulcerative colitis (diagnosed March) and we pretty much knew it was a flare (the type and location of the pain, and blood in the rectum). We're both tired of hospitals (her UC has hospitalized her three times this year), but she was in too much pain for us to manage alone. When the Dr came to see her, she first suggested my girlfriend was lying about having ulcerative colitis, wanted to know why she thought it was that, and if she'd "really been diagnosed" with UC. She even went so far as to ask if she had her biopsy results with her. The heck? They offered her Toradol for pain, but we already explained to the nurse when we first arrived, that, for whatever reason, Toradol has no effect on my girlfriend, none whatsoever, the same as not taking anything. Since there was no reason to subject her body to excessive pain medication that doesn't work (my girlfriend also has type 1 diabetes and doesn't… need any unnecessary toxicity to filter out), she declined the Toradol explaining, again, it would be pointless. We were there for about 7 hours total and the Dr refused to give her anything for her pain that would actually have helped. Her reasoning? My girlfriend was constipated and narcotic pain medication would only make the constipation worse. The constipation, she claimed, was the problem. I am so angry I could spit nails. I know that, unfortunately, when one goes to the ER they don't really have a choice about who is on shift and may therefore get stuck at the mercy of this idiot of a doctor.

Terrible experience with Gihan Wetzel. My husband went to the ER at Anaheim Regional Medical Center after having severe and I mean SEVERE abdominal pain that caused vomiting for about 12 hours that day. He was seen pretty quickly, I assume since it was close to 2am. Gihan saw him and pretty much dismissed him. My husband was given fluids through IV and was sent home. Gihan did nothing other than that, give him fluids. The discharge/patient instructions were for nausea and vomiting only. Come to find out after a doctor visit at another facility with a better doctor, my husband has gallstones. Well if you've given birth or had kidney stones before this is similar. You'll know how painful they are. This was something serious and Gihan was no help whatsoever. Avoid this person because they don't care about their patients, rather about just getting a pay check.
