Dr. Ginger Yin Chiang, MD

Alan L. Schwartz, Psy.D, is the director of psychology for the Christiana Care Center for Comprehensive Behavioral Health. A clinical psychologist, Dr. Schwartz joined Christiana Care in 1993.

Dr. Schwartz provides psychotherapy, psychological assessments and testing to diagnose and plan treatment for people who are experiencing:
-Anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety, panic disorders and phobias.
-Trauma-related disorders, including responses to crime, loss and military combat.
-Mood disorders, including depression and bipolar disorder.
-Relationship conflicts.
-Conflicts and concerns related to their sense of self, optimal achievement and self-actualization.

His eclectic approach to treatment reflects his experience in providing many types of psychotherapy. His training includes cognitive-behavioral therapy and psychodynamic/insight-oriented therapy. He uses empirically-supported treatments for clinical problems as well as complementary therapies, such as relaxation …training, guided imagery and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, also known as EMDR. When Dr. Schwartz creates a treatment plan, he tailors his approach and techniques for each patient.

Dr. Schwartz treats individuals and couples. He is licensed to practice in Delaware and Pennsylvania. He also has certifications to work as a school psychologist and provide EMDR therapy.

His other professional activities include training doctoral students in clinical psychology and working on the clinical faculty at Immaculata University, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and his alma mater, the Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology at Widener University.

Dr. Schwartz regularly presents at professional organizations in the areas of psychological assessment and psychotherapy. He is a member of the Society for Personality Assessment and associate editor of its newsletter, The Exchange. He also is a member of the American Psychological Association.
