Dr. Gleb Gregory Gendel, DO

I went o St. Mary’s on 3/1 with severe abdominal and back pain. I was seen very quickly and treated and then admitted. Dr. Gendel and Dr. Haley were very prompt in treating me and ordering tests and medication. I was then admitted. I can’t say enough good about the professionalism and immediate attention I was given the whole time I was there. The RNs and aides are exceptional and St. Mary’s will always be my first choice of hospitals.

I brought my son to Trinity Health Emergency Center in Rockford late on a Friday night. He’d had cold symptoms for a few days, but his ear pain got much worse throughout the day. His sister had just been diagnosed with a severe ear infection two days earlier with the same symptoms, so we didn’t want to wait all weekend to see his primary care doctor. After searching for a 24-hour urgent care, this was our only nearby option. When we arrived, our car was one of only two in the parking lot. There were no other patients in the waiting room, and we were quickly seen by Dr. Gleb Gendel — who was extremely condescending and rude from the start. Before even examining my son, he questioned why we came to the “emergency” for an earache and acted visibly irritated that we were there. He made it very clear that he didn’t think our visit was justified, which was especially strange considering the facility was practically empty. He also talked down to us because my son hadn’t been regularly… taking Tylenol for his symptoms. My son trains seriously and avoids unnecessary medication when possible. While I can understand the doctor finding that unusual, the way he lectured and spoke to us was completely unprofessional and made an already stressful situation worse. After finally examining him, Dr. Gendel confirmed there was an ear infection and gave him Tylenol, his first antibiotic dose, and a prescription. The other staff were wonderful, and the facility itself was great — but the doctor’s attitude left a lasting bad impression. I hope we never have to be treated by Dr. Gendel again.
