Dr. Glen Brooks, MD

This man just wants to help people. He is a rarity in the doctor world. He is also kind and caring and takes time with his patients. I am grateful for him.

You pick up the phone and call a renowned NYC specialist in the midst of a RLS/depression episode and he answers the phone. You read that right. Dr. Glen Brooks spent the next 30 minutes on the phone with me getting all the details, history, list of current meds, etc. He called in the much-needed meds to my pharmacy in NC. This stranger was there for me when I didn’t know where to turn, and he has answered every email I have sent in a timely manner. This man has the patience of a saint! Dr. Brooks is one of the few doctors that i met in my life that cares more about the patient than the money. Ketamine treatment for CRPS and depression is relatively new, but Dr. Brooks who operates 7 days a week and has been doing that for yrs has the experience you would like your doctor to have.

I have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) and am in treatment with Dr. Brooks for intractable pain. I do not exaggerate when I say he has saved my life with IV ketamine infusions. I was in desperate agony last year when I inquired about this new-to-me treatment for chronic pain, and Dr. Brooks returned my call himself...on a Saturday morning. He listened, answered all my questions, and got me in for a consultation followed by my first infusions very quickly. He is the most compassionate doctor I've ever had experience with, and that compassion shows throughout his entire office--from reception to nursing. He has a professional, caring team. His skill with administering the meds I need for the condition I have has helped lower my pain dramatically and has allowed me to live a functional life again. And he keeps me functioning. I am most grateful for this compassionate, knowledgeable doctor, and realize how blessed I am to have found him.

Reflex sympathetic dystrophy is definitely my most painful medical problem but is just one of the many physical and mental ailments I have he is so sweet and is trying to treat me the whole me . Before I met with him in person was so powerful because this man answered every one of my calls even when he was on vacation ( well deserved ) spent 40 minutes on the phone w/ me. He understands financial struggles because insurance won't pay for it and equates that to a degree most doctors wouldn't. He is Amazing, patient and willing to listen really listen to what has helped in the past and really takes that into consideration as to get the best results w/ the Ketamine.

Dr. Brooks is nice, experienced, & obviously sincere about wanting to help his patients. That said, we had four reasons to seek treatment elsewhere. 1) FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT, & PROCEDURESâ??a waiting room full of podiatry products for sale is disconcerting, & an exam room cluttered with orthotics even more soâ?¦yet these things are of no real consequence. Not so an IV bag holder that consists of a picture hook nailed into drywall; the bag actually fell off the hook during setup. It was also impossible to ignore that while the IV tube was being connected to the bag, the other endâ??which received the needleâ??was literally flopping around on the floor. So much for sterile. Glovesâ??though none were used while inserting the IVâ??were available in a dispenser labeled â??trash bags.â?? The overall effect was of a Third World clinic. Also troubling is that Dr. Brooks doesnâ??t bother to weigh the patientâ?¦as though everyone knows his/her precise weight, & is always honest about… it. (When a drug is meted out in fractions of a milligram per kilo, patient weight seems an important factor in dosing calculations.) The fact that the room was not monitoredâ??requiring a search for Dr. Brooks after the bag ran dryâ??did not help matters. 2) ERRONEOUS ADVICEâ??website FAQs include: â??Are there any medications that will interfere with ketamine treatment? No.â?? This is false; Dr. Brooks himself advised on the phone (& we found confirmation elsewhere) that Lamictal dosing > 100 mg can blunt ketamine effectiveness. Separatelyâ??itâ??s disturbing that â??What will I experience during the infusion?â?? doesnâ??t stipulate nausea, which is apparently a common reaction & can be severe. Itâ??s not on Brooksâ?? website, & he neither mentioned it up front nor asked how the patient felt (on leaving the office, nausea was pronounced). Other providers warn about this, & prescribe Zofran if indicated. 3) CREDENTIALSâ??much information on Dr. Brooksâ?? website deals not just with what ketamine is & how it works, but with depression & its causes. None of this is attributed to practicing psychiatrists, psychologists, or professional journalsâ?¦it just appears, presented as fact. We looked closely, & found thatâ??while Dr. Brooks has outstanding credentials & long experience as an anesthesiologistâ?? he presents NO credentials or training in mental health. He appears to be practicing way outside his purview. 4) CRUSADERâ??Dr. Brooks apparently believes that all, or nearly all, patients afflicted by depression & serious mood disorders are PTSD sufferers, caused by trauma most likely experienced when they were young children. This is clearly stated on his website, & we found his in-depth questioning along these linesâ??prior to administering the drugâ??to be consistent. However well-intentioned, it smacks of zealotry. Given his apparent lack of formal training in this field, it seems highly inappropriateâ?¦& possibly damaging to patients who may be in a fragile or vulnerable state.

I want to start off by saying that Dr.Brooks is a good person. Unfortunately, the Ketamine treatment that he was very sure would work for me did not (even though I received all 6 infusions). I also believe that Dr. Brooks was not totally honest about the side effects. I was told that I wouldn't have any even though I had headaches, weakness, constipation, suicidal thoughts, etc. I really hope the treatment would work for you but just wanted to warn people that even though there are so many positive reviews, Ketamine might not work for you.

Dr. Brooks is the ONLY Dr. to understand the complexities of my co-existing disorders with untreatable Depression AND Physical Pain. He has taken the time to educate me on my issues, how to treat them, why they should be treated this way, how the treatment works, AND is also detoxing me off of Opiates, which I've taken for a long time due to pain from a longstanding disease. I went to numerous psychiatrists for several years to try and treat my Depression. All they did was poison me with numerous medications that did not work, and they would have continued to do so unless I stopped them. I was in a very dark place. I thought my depression was untreatable but Ketamine was miraculous. Over a period of a few weeks, there was major improvement and I continue to go for maintenance. Dr. Brooks also was able to point me in the right direction to diagnose my pain so that I could stop taking pain meds. Good health is a work in progress but I've never been more hopeful & I'm sure he has… saved my life.

You know the story about Guardian Angels they tell??.. You never really believe they exists until you meet someone like Dr. Brooks. I can sit here and tell you the entire story, but to put it simply: I was in a state of severe chronic pain, until meeting Dr. Brooks last year. I felt a difference after just one treatment, but I did a few more. It's nice to have some relief. Dr. Brooks has a wonderful bedside manner, and he's very informative. He takes his time to make you feel comfortable. If you're in a similar situation and tired of pain, Go see Dr. Brooks Now.
