Dr. Glenace Baldner Shank, DO

First thing I would like to say is Dr Shank should not be a doctor! Her bedside manner is poor. She does not listen, was very disrespectful, displayed a poor attitude, and was uniformed regarding the Vet’s case although she is the PCP. She refused to answer questions related to ongoing medical care. I don’t know where the VA found this doctor but she needs to go back where she came from. Never in my 25+ years of medical experience have I been associated with this kind of doctor. She is clearly there for the paycheck and not for the care of our Veterans.

I've had a health history of bad colds turning into Upper Respiratory Infections. I went to see Dr. Shank when she was at Urbandale Family Practice and explained to her that I think I had an infection or bronchitis vs. a common cold. Her first words out of her mouth was "well why don't you let me be the judge of that". I did not get treated for the infection and it turned into pneumonia. This lingered on for several months. It was total brutality.

This doctor is one of the worst doctors Ive encountered. Our veterans deserve better! Lacks compassion for her patients and others around her. Needs sensitivity training or just quit being a doctor because she doesnt care for individuals as a whole.

I went to Dr. Shank for a chronic problem. Her first words were, "looks like you are getting better." She hadn't even examined me. I had to wait 9 days to get this appointment. She told me that this was not her fault and she did not know about it. She even turned her screen towards me so I could see that she had not signed it. She then told me, "If you don't like the process, call your senator. That's how it works here." I will call my senator. The VA should not pay doctors who are so rude to their patients. She contributes to the bad opinion people have of VA medicine. I did not want to be talked to like that anymore so I left. She yelled as I walked out, "Oh for God's sake!" I went to the patient advocate at the VA and reported the incident. She is no longer my doctor. I hope that other veterans are not treated like that again. She should not be at the VA. After this experience, I am not shocked or appalled by the other comments on this page.

Very good doctor took plenty of time with me and was very nice would recommend her for your doctor the VA has a keeper

My only complaints were about waiting for an appointment, which I know Dr. Shank has nothing to do with. I am very surprised by all the negative reviews, my experiences with Dr. Shank were nothing but pleasant

I haven't seen Dr Shank for over 15 years. We moved out of state. However, I thought of Dr Shank recently as we hold similar views on a particular topic. Thus, I was interested her input for an article that I am writing. In searching for her on the internet, I came across these very negative reviews. I was shocked. In my experience of several years with Dr Shank, as my primary care provider, I experienced none of what is described in these reviews. On my last appointment with her she gave the disappointing news that she was going to move her practice to a neighboring county. I gave strong consideration to following her there but, instead, I found another doctor at Urbandale Family Physicians. In my experience, Dr Shank was always easy to talk to and seemed to listen to what I had to say. There was NEVER even a hint of rudeness on her part. I actually felt more comfortable with her than any of the four, or so, previous primary care doctors that I had experienced. I cannot… discount the consistency of the experiences of others as described in these reviews. However, if I were to move back to the Urbandale area, I would not hesitate to reconnect with Dr Shank.

My experience with Dr. Shank was awful. She was extremely rude right off the bat and even condescending toward me. She did not listen to me and made me feel awful for even coming to the doctor. She argued with me and pretty much belittled me for about why I came in. I have never been made to feel so awful for wanting to be pro-active in taking care of myself. She brought me to tears. I stood up and put my coat on halfway through the visit and asked her for my paper to take to the desk. I am not a doctor but I feel that AS one, you should have some compassion toward your patients and not judge them, or try to push your own ideas about what YOU would do on to them. The first thing she did after walking in the room was scold me for not taking more over the counter medications for my symptoms. NEVER see this doctor. When I walked out of the room she mumbled something after me. I wonder how she still has a job with all of these bad reviews.

My wife took me to see someone urgently because I had a very high fever (104.8) and it wasnt getting better. My daughter and son both went through this earlier due to a strep infection. The lovely Dr.Shank discarded all my symptoms and said it was the flu even after I explained the issues with my children. I asked for a throat swab or culture for strep or anything since I was really concerned about myself. She refused and said "if you want to play doctor then go to I suggest you go to college, until then I do what I feel is best". Needless to say we paid our copay and left for home. The next day I went to another clinic and what do you know? I have strep......Ive been a RN for 17 years and never was treated so bad. Do not waste your time on this incompetant so called Physician. Read the other reviews too. I would refuse to see her if I showed up again. She needs to work on her skills and her bedside manners......I didnt even so much get a tylenol.....Avoid this person...

She had, by far, the worst bedside manner of any doctor I've ever seen. I went in on urgent care because I was genuinely concerned about myself, and she was rude and dismissive. She even said at one point "well, you can go to the ER if you don't believe me." I was shocked by her attitude and would not recommend her to anyone.
