I was diagnosed with throat and neck cancer and had to get a dental exam to be sure I had no cavities or teeth issues before I began my cancer treatment. I paid what I thought was a very high price for multiple dental x rays. The x rays showed NO CAVITIES. I am 71 and all I had was a bit of bone loss which is typical for my age. I still needed a teeth cleaning completed so had the cleaning completed, and the hygienic stated I had really good teeth. The day after the cleaning the dentist calls me back and states oh I changed my mind, I want to extract 3 teeth due to b one loss. I explained to her that y cancer went from a state 1 to stage 3 tumor in less than one month. If she did that, I would had to wait 5 weeks before treatment. I once again reminded her that the chemo doctor spent an hour with e going over my PET scan. he covered the whole skull, jaw, and teeth. When he got to the teeth he stated your teeth look great as you can see each tooth and the roots as well. IT shows no… cavities nor any problems what so ever. But he stated he still wanted a teeth cleaning. I told the dentist I could not wait 5 weeks as I would be a dead person with 3 teeth extracted.or I could get my cancer treatment and live! She still denied me approval and sent a fax to my cancer doctors saying she would not approve treatment until extractions were done. I was outraged over her statements. I then called a dentist who does have years of experience working with throat and neck cancer patients. I spent 25 minutes on the phone with him after my wife drove the x rays over to his office. He stated bone loss is typical with my age and really no concerns, He stated I did NOT need any dental work completed. So he sent a fax saying and I quote from his fax: After examination of the x rays and discussion with the patient, considering time is very important to start chemo/radiation treatment and active infection appears NOT to be present, it is more important to start treatment than to worry about future teeth issues. and yes he did capitalize the word NOT. In summary, I would not go to this dentist as she is more of a general dentist without the required experience to make a correct diagnosis of problems. I will be contacting management on this dentist and I will be asking for my money back as she was incapable of a credible diagnosis. If I could give zero stars I would have done it. save your teeth go elsewhere. signed DALE H
