Dr. Barnhart performed a minimal invasive mitral valve repair in 2011 with an excellent outcome. I found him to be not only an outstanding surgeon, but also a kind, warm caring person. His efficient and thorough presentation and education regarding my medical situation and treatment recommendation made for confidence with the pending surgery. I was fortunate to have him as my surgeon.

I needed open heart surgery for two of my valves. I was planning to have it done by a different surgeon. But the more I got to know him, the more he struck me as a probable "cut-and-run" surgeon. He just didn't give me much time. So I contacted Dr. Barnhart's office ostensibly for a second opinion. (I actually wanted to "audition" Dr. Barnhart) His wonderful assistant regretfully told me he'd be out of the office a fair bit that month for vacation. But then she said she'd be able to squeeze me in--within two days! Some "squeezing in!" Dr. Barnhart. gave me more than an hour of his time, going over everything about my heart with me, even though all (he thought) I'd wanted was a second opinion. Three weeks later, he operated on me, and was able to repair my really messed up mitral valve rather than replace it. He continues to make himself available to me for any question/concerns I might have. He told me (as he tells every patient) that it's his "privilege" to… participate in my care. Well, it's MY privilege to be under HIS care. Dr. Barnhart is that rare person who's both very highly skilled AND patient, compassionate and humble. He speaks softly--which is the true mark of a professional and a gentleman. And when you ask questions, he treats you like an intelligent adult rather than a know-nothing kid. If you need cardiac surgery you couldn't do better than with Dr. Barnhart. He has my undying (pun very much intended) gratitude. P.S.: Dr. Barnhart's hospital--Swedish in Seattle--is simply the best too.

Dr Barnhart provides the highest level of care along with his excellent and caring staff. My husband and I were completely informed as to what was happening before, during and following my surgery. Dr. Barnhart completely repaired my mitral valve and has me on the road to a better future. He takes more than adequate time with patients, checked on me several times in the hospital and has a very kind but completely competent demeanor. I felt as if I had nothing to worry about. He would get the job done right and that's exactly what he did. My family and I could never thank him enough.

Dr. Barnhart is the chief cardiac surgeon at Swedish Heart and Vascular in Seattle. He did a great job with my very complicated mitral valve prolapse repair. I truly believe that another surgeon may not have been able to repair it, and I would be sentenced to a mechanical valve and lifetime coumadin. If you need heart surgery, Dr. Barnhart is the surgeon for you!

Dr. Barnhart performed my son's first heart surgery at 6 mos of age. He was easy to talk to about what was going on during the entire process and was completely involved throughout (not a cut and run surgeon). He showed great care and concern for both my son and us (his family) both before and after surgery.
