Dr. Glenroy Heywood, MD

I was very satisfied with Dr. Heywood and his treatment for my gastroparisis. He was always professional and courteous at my appointments and follow-ups. I have had to go to Tulsa, Oklahoma and now El Paso, Texas for my adjustments. I do hope he can one day return to his practice in Albuquerque.

While some may not appreciate his sense of humor or his bedside manner, I think he is terrific. He is very caring and understanding and makes sure the patient understands the entire process from beginning to end. I am very grateful to have been referred to such an outstanding surgeon and an outstanding man. Without him I would not be alive.

We recently had a family member who needed to go into emergency surgery this past month. Dr. Heywood was to be his surgeon. Our family had many questions as we were naturally very concerned and Dr. Heywood basically came off as rude and sarcastic. As he explained the procedure we asked if he would be the main physician doing the surgery. He looked at us in disbelief and states " you want him to do it?' as he pointed to one of our family members. When asked if our family member would have an ostomy bag he stated.... " why does this matter right now? Do you need to go find him some shoes to match the color of his bag?" Inappropriate comebacks were given to us as we asked questions- basically to the point where he made us all feel like dirt. In a time of need and hurt you would expect a little bit of empathy- especially when the life of your loved ones is in the surgeons hands. Once the procedure was completed Dr. Heywood came out stated the surgery was successful and he did exactly… what he was going to , followed by... Its late and I am not going to answer any questions at this time. It took 2 days to start getting answers as he did not come in the next day to consult with us regarding how our family member was doing or what was to be expected. We appreciate his knowledge and his ability to do the surgery however this doctor's bedside manner is completely unacceptable. When you go into the medical field you go in with a heart to help others and to make the family aware of the care that they are receiving- Not belittle them or make them feel inferior.

Best medical experience I've ever had. Dr. Heywood treated me like a real person and didn't have that robotic doctor persona so many doctors have. He is extremely knowledgeable, skilled and compassionate. I wish he was my primary care physician.

Dr. Heywood was my husband's surgical doctor in 2011. Our time spent with Dr. Heywood was very congenial, polite and also thorough in his visits with my husband. We consider him to be a caring man and intelligent doctor.
