Dr. G. Is the only urologist that has helped me and I have seen many over the last 35 years. Kudos!!!

Dr Gluckman Has been treating my cancer for approximately 10 years. He never rushes and answers satisfactorily all questions. Fortunate to be under his care.

Dr Gluckman takes the time to listen, provides feedback and determine follow up timing. He indicates to contact him with any issues that may occur before scheduled follow up.

Dr Gluckman is ok for minor issues however go elsewhere if you have a serious problem or need some kind of surgical intervention, you will not receive individualized care with this Dr. Again go elsewhere to a Dr that is up to date and cares about you and resolves your urological problems. This Dr fails with follow up and does not communicate with his patients. Pass this Doctor up, also the des plaines surgical clinic is outdated, dirty and nurse staff are unprofessional.

Going on Chicago's Magazine rating him a top doctor, I went to him. He was, at that time, perhaps 8 years ago, competent and sharp. However, after a lapse of seeing him, he refused to do an ultrasound on my large prostate, which my old urologist did every time I saw him. When I made the appointment, I told the scheduler that I wanted an ultrasound done at the appointment, but was given an answer to the effect, "The doctor can do so if he chooses to." When I saw him, he refused and said that this is "not how I practice medicine here, nor will any other doctor here. If you are not happy with that, then perhaps you should see another urologist." I was shocked. When you have a significantly enlarged prostate, a digital feel of it is meaningless, as a doctor cannot palpate more than a small section. You want to see if it has increased in size. When I asked about a Green Light procedure, he offered to do one, or another newer type that lasts longer. He said there was no need to… come back; I could just call and set up the surgery when I decided I wanted to do it. It was perhaps close to a year when I called to set one up. His nurse called me to tell me he had to see me before doing one. I requested that he perform both an ultrasound and a biopsy. Again, I was not given any definite answer he would do so. Upon seeing him, he stated that there was no need for a biopsy, since my PSA level was around the same. That's simply poor medicine. You don't conclude that there could not be development of cancer without a biopsy. Instead, he wanted to perform a cystoscopy, the reason for which was not clear, other than he wanted to see my bladder. I asked him if he would be doing an ultrasound and a 12 or 24 point biopsy. He stated he would be doing a biopsy. During this visit, I noted his demeanor and was not pleased with what I observed. Then, so unprofessionally, he didn't have a laptop in the exam room, or a computer. When I asked him about the results and date of a past test, he had to leave the room to use a computer, and rudely left me alone for 40 minutes or more before returning, seeing other patients in the interim. I was somewhat hesitant to do the cystoscopy, but unfortunately, I went ahead with it. Upon waking after the procedure, i had to ask him what the ultrasound showed, only for him to tell me he did not ultrasound the prostate as he "could see it." He spent but a couple of minutes and clearly wanted to leave my presence. Then, I when I signed a release with the laboratory the biopsy went to, I was shocked to find out that he did not even follow standard urological protocol, which is to do at least a 12-point biopsy, where 3 specific areas in each of 4 quadrants of the prostate are biopsied, placed & labeled in 12 containers. To my horror, he simply manually jabbed needles without the use of the machine that does so while ultra-sound guided, into the left and right side of the prostate, threw the samples into only 2 containers, marked "Left" & "Right". He gave me a non-standard course of antibiotics for 5 days. I then developed an infection, and my primary physician had to give me a 14 day standard course of antibiotics. I had the infection reoccur, and had to be on antibiotics again. For months, I had blood in my urine and in my semen, as this "slop job" biopsy of manually stabbing my prostate was not appropriate at all, and created more trauma than using the usual ultrasound probe that shows on the screen where the needle will be aimed at, and the depth of each biopsy needle "shoot" is controlled to a particular depth. I will never go to this doctor again, and warn others of my horrid experience.

I sufferd with a catheter for a full year after having brachytherapy by another urologist elsewhere for low grade prostate cancer. Dr Gluckman recommended a surgical procedure which he performed on me that opened up my bladder; the catheter came out for good five days later. I am 62 years old and now have my normal life back. I can not say enough about how good he is! He performs surgery, brachytherapy. or does watchful waiting for prostate cancer so he is qualified to help a man make a difficult decision as to what to do about prostate cancer. Chicago Magazine listed him as one of the top urologists in Chicago! If your a man with any prostate problems or have cancer see him; he's th best.
