None of the above is important after Dr. Knight recognized a serious problem with my husband's heart an immediately jumped into action by wasting no time on getting him into surgery to save his life. If it wasn't for Dr. Knight, I wouldn't have my husband. The questions above can be tolerated in exchange for how Dr. Knight helped us.

My brother was recently admitted to St. Anthony's hospital for 95 percent blockage on three main arteries and two blood clots, one on the left main and one in his heart. The family was called up to the hospital for an emergency surgery when all of this was discovered. My brother who was working in Nebraska, left his job to return home because we were made to believe this was a life threatening situation. Most of the family was at the hospital mid morning as the surgery was suppose to happen immediately. A balloon pump was put in him for blood flow as he was only injecting 20 percent and it should be 55 to 60 percent. The cardiologist told us this could be a life threatening situation and his opinion was that the surgery should be done immediately, but St. Anthony's does not have an in house cardiac surgeon. How insane is that? They only have 3 cardiac surgeons that come as an emergency arises. Had we known that, we would have taken him to Barnes. Anyway, the surgeon makes all… the calls, not the cardiologist. The surgeon decided to come in around 4:00 in the afternoon, while the whole family was on pins and needles all day waiting for surgery to happen. We were told the surgeon would come in the waiting room to speak to all of us where we were all waiting frantically. He came into my brothers room, which was the cardiac icu, and told him the surgery would not happen till the next morning at 8:00. He never talked to his wife or any of the rest of the family. He spent a total of seconds with my brother. As you can imagine, the family was extremely upset, that a clot on his left main had already broke off and was floating and could cause him instant death if it moved into an artery. We raised all kinds of h with the hospital and anyone there that would listen to us. My husband worked in the cardiac cath lab for 2 years and has worked in intervention radiology for 15 years. He knew how dangerous this was, even if he is not a doctor. He talked to the nurse manager who tried to explain that he was stable with the balloon pump and that it was not the cardiologists call, but the surgeons call. OK, how was this an extreme emergency even with the balloon pump in the morning, so bad that the family was called in. And now it can wait till the following morning. We threatened to move him to Barnes, but was not sure if he was even stable enough to do that. Finally another surgeon, from St. Clair Hospital looked at his chart and totally agreed that the surgery needed to be done immediately. The whole cardiac team at St. Anthonys, the icu neuro, and all the people involved with him agreed the surgery needed to be done right away. The other surgeon was there within a half hour and the whole cardiac team and surgery team were up in his room explaining to us what was going to happen. The surgery was done that evening as it should have been. As it was explained to us from cardiologists who agreed he should have the surgery. "Don't let the sun go down on a left main." The surgery was a success. I will never ever go to St. Anthony's Hospital again with any family member, and we will make sure that Dr. Gordon Knight's name will be tarnished to everyone we know. What kind of insaneness was this when everyone else agreed the surgery should be done, except him. Rating would be no stars if it would let you rate him like that.

Receptionist was extremely rude!

Dr. Gordon cut open my mothers legs looking for varicose veins that had been stripped years ago. When he couldnt find them he came out and blamed the family for not telling him that they were not there. We had no idea what she had or had not told him.
