Dr. Grant Gilbert Haven, MD

I have been going to Dr Haven for about 10 years or more. He is extremely knowledgeable about medication in particular and strives to minimize the medications required. He’s not one to just throw a pill at a problem. He’s easy to talk to, very professional and has a great sense of humor. He’s been the right doctor for me.

I have been working with Dr Haven for just over a year now, since a traumatic event happened to me last August. I had a history of depression and severe migraines before this that were always hard to reign in and diagnose properly. He was able to do that and to understand why the treatments I had tried in the past weren't the best approaches. He is one of the few doctors that hasn't run out of options, hasn't thrown up his hands in despair, etc. His manner is empathetic and he is quick to adjust medications quickly when he knows they are just not right (i.e. making quality of life miserable). I am prone to abandoning my meds when I'm frustrated and not seeing progress, but I give him credit for the encouragement and tremendously kind guilt trip he gives me when I start to lean that way again. He is a great listener, he has a way of inferring what I'm trying to say but have a hard time communicating. Most importantly, he lets me have a role in my own 'personal medical destiny'… (a mouthful to say). I have tried many things, researched many things, and often bring questions to him such as 'would this treatment be okay to try?'. He never shoots me down or patronizes me for my suggestions/questions just because I don't have the expertise that he does. He considers my ideas and explains the pros and cons of each one. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a Psychiatrist who will stick with you, not give up on you, and have empathy and understanding for what life is like when you are stuck in tough places.
