Dr. Graziano Carlo Carlon, MD

Avoid Dr. Carlon and the 51st Street MOM location for anesthesia services. Dr. Carlon charges patients $800 upfront for anesthesia because the office routinely mishandles insurance pre-authorizations. My insurance rep discovered the MOM team hadn’t submitted the proper paperwork, and when they finally did, it was incomplete and sent to the wrong fax number. During a call with my insurance rep, Dr. Carlon admitted frustration with the process but refused to take accountability. He even attempted to contact Dr. Dibba, the GI on the procedure, who rudely dismissed him in the background. This disorganization and lack of professionalism are unacceptable. My insurance rep suggested I report this practice for fraud, as they claim to manage insurance but fail to do so, leaving patients stuck with unnecessary out-of-pocket costs. Dr. Carlon’s shady billing practices and association with this dysfunctional team make him a provider to avoid at all costs.

My experience with the Dr. Graziano Carlon (Dream Medical) and MOM (The Medical Offices of Manhattan) was abysmal. The office atmosphere was like a cattle call, wait times were off the charts (no pun intended), and the staff was very disappointing. Before I arrived there for a procedure, I was told by the nurse practitioner @ MOM that I was covered for anesthesia. Upon arrival, I asked the woman working the front desk to DOUBLE CHECK for me, before I paid my copay, that I was covered. (I was told by my own health insurance that I wasn't covered, that's why I wanted to double check). She made it clear she was in no mood to check for me, but she relented - and returned a few minutes later after supposedly 'double checking' with Dream Medical (the anesthesiology division), saying, "Yes. You are covered. Pay your copay." Fast-forward to me getting a bill for $800. When I complained, Dr. Graziano Carlon, the anesthesiologist, insisted I was in the wrong. (And I have an email to prove he… KNEW the MOM staff mislead me before I paid my copay, even chastising the people on the email chain - not realizing I was on it - for giving out the wrong information to patients.) Yet he, nor MOM, still made me pay the full $800. And after my procedure, they forgot I was there. I was told to sit in a room afterwards, when the nurse practitioner (Jillian) came in and said, "Oh, you're still here?" Do yourself a favor: if you want to save time and money, steer clear or The Medical Offices of Manhattan and Graziano Carlon of Dream Medical.

He was good and efficient. But when I received a bill, it was confusing as he charged using his wife's practice name, who is GYN and wasn't my GYN. I almost declined the charge from my credit card. This is exactly why I didn't like to give my credit card before the procedure. I want to receive the bill first and see the explanation of the charge, which is reasonable request I think. Also, charge was more than they promised it would be. $3000 for colonoscopy anesthesiology? This is probably exactly why he needs my credit card info before the procedure started.

He is cold. He is greedy. If you have insurance, he still demands a credit card before a procedure, or he won't perform the procedure, and then he bills you, without talking to you first. He is a money hungry physician.

I had no problem with insurance and billing; I'd checked with the doctor's office before making the appointment because of difficulties with this elsewhere. The colonoscopy prep is not pleasant but both doctors were pleasant and clearly professional.
