Horrible experience working with this physician. He has a terrible bedside manner and has no empathy.

A couple years ago I read a review that stated he released a patient cold turkey, no warning! I never forgot that review especially when he did the exact same thing to me! I was sent an email stating he was stopping my meds( no meeting or anything). I always had clean urine tests and never abused meds or anything! I was told from other pain docs that he did not handle my situation appropriately! He sees his patients once or twice a year while his nurse practitioner sees you for every appointment. She always looks disheveled and attempts to play doctor with you by asking a bunch of questions. She asks nosey questions about your family to get you to trust her. This woman smiles in your face while writing lies in your chart! I highly recommend that you find a better doctor!

I have nothing against this doctor personally. However, he should not describe himself as a general pain management specialist. As I have seen on google reviews as well- he rejects even consults if it is not a specific type to his area of knowledge in the neurological field. I had 3 referrals to him, and was told he would not even see me to discuss my case repeatedly. I have a doctorate degree, I have worked in hospitals and ambulatory centers for over 15 years,’ training residents. I have had have too many hospitalizations to count. I have been to Cleveland clinic, Mayo, consulted Hopkins. They all said I need pain management which I did not want but it became apparent after spending half the year in the hospital I needed it. It has a stigma for me and hard enough to ask for help. His colleagues or other pain management drs in the area saw me and offered me treatment. (After his repeated refusal for consults effected my internist view of me) I think he should let the medical… community that he sees a limited neurological pain population. My doctor kept making referrals and it was just sort humiliating and dismissive. Every other pain management dr has seen me and treated me (I lived in different states and also traveled the country trying to find a way not to be on medication.) If the top US hospitals tell me I need pain management then I must. I just would say don’t feel diminished or disenfranchised if his office says ‘the dr just won’t see you’. He is not a pain management specialist but perhaps a neurological pain management physician. For example, any other dr I have seen the pain management or anesthesiology fields has treated me. I have not once seen a doctor that did not provide a consult and treat me. (I only see one doctor of course but have had to move several times for work and personal reasons, and I have consults and choose which dr is the best match for me. This absolutely does not depend on medications, amount or type. I could be on much higher doses but I desire to try to limit what intake and stay out of the hospital). I just agree with the other reviews I read that said he will not do a consult if he chooses. Do not let it make you feel frustrated or bad about yourself, other pain management offices will likely see you. I have never been told a physician would not do a consultation from a referral. Again, nothing personal against this doctor but he really should not state he’s a pain management specialist. My doctors believed he would see me, and if there’s another review stating the same then that means many many more pts have had this experience. Name your speciality as neurological if that is what it is. And inform your colleagues about the types of diagnoses or symptoms you will see. Save a patient going back, paying more money for another referral please! When you are in chronic pain it is difficult to function and finances might be a strain where they never were previously. My doctors would not have given referrals Numerous times if they knew his practice was solely neurologically rooted symptoms. I would have saved two extra office visits, the copays. Thank you and I hope the dr will take this as helpful feedback and not be defensive. No disrespect to this doctor. Just needs to be addressed. And perhaps the bedside manner of some staff when conveying the doctor won’t see them. Again, I have no personal issue with this doctor. I just think he may not understand how hard it is to have horrible pain, be referred by several physicians that he’s a dr l that will really help you, and have to return and pay another co pay for another referral. If I were not a medical professional as well as being in at least 10 hospitals for inpatient treatment or consults allover the country at the top rated hospitals- I would have felt like I was being dismissed and him telling me they did not identify my medical issues as real- I think that is a that the other review on google or some other site was trying to convey that stated they were dismissed without a consult (I have several very real diagnoses, resulting in surgery and invasive procedures that were not elective, rather to stop necrosis due to due ischemia amount mg several other issues). It may seem silly to Dr. Figg, but he was the only doctor my internist gave me and had to seek care outside of my medical system. And for Some reason this effected my patient doctor relationship With my internist. They did not like doing my pain management or dealing with my hospitalizations because I did not have a pain management specialist for quite some time after repeated referrals and assurances that Dr. Figg would see me- well my doctor questioned me why he wouldn’t see me- and I really couldn’t say...? It caused undue tension in our patient /doctor relationship. Perhaps they questioned my need for pain management after being told twice I could not Even get a consult- but I don’t know because they continued to do my pain management. But this doctor ultimately said they didn’t feel they were helping me (they were) and so they stopped my care eventually and I found someone. Although I ended up in the hospital several Times. I think this excruciating pain could of been avoided and think that if my internist (Internal med) knew this doctor wouldn’t see me because my issues are not neurological - I could of saved myself, my family, a lot of time and money, and I feel this contributed to her impression of me- that she wasn’t helping me enough and a pain management doctor she believed in refused to even consult with me- well that didn’t help and this was no fault of mine. However, the consequences were- her being upset at having to treat me for pain, her interpretation of his refusal to see me- well I am Not blaming anyone for anything specifically but it effected my relationship with my provider when he would not do a consult —which impac

I read through some of the negative reviews of Dr. Figg and in my opinion - I do not agree with any of them. Dr. Gregory Figg is the best pain management doctor I have had the privilege of being a patient of (3-4 years). It speaks volumes when you're at other pain management clinics and you hear others talking about how good and professional he was. After reading several reviews from multiple websites - he was worth a shot. I am thankful I am seen by him and his staff because he has been a life-saver with managing my pain. With the way our government is coming down on doctors who prescribe opiate pain medications and strict guidelines with how and who they prescribe too, they have to be strict on the patients too. If you don't go by their rules - you're out! That's only fair... We who actually need them and take them as prescribed, don't need others who can't go by the book ruining it for the rest of us. Dr. Figg is a good doctor - he's understanding and knowledgeable. If he… tells you to jump... you need to jump! Pain management isn't a joke and he isn't a fly-by-night doctor handing out prescriptions for a check! No pill-mill there! He's professional, caring, understanding, FAIR, and goes by the book.

Dr. Figg is professional, kind, caring courteous, patient (he doesn't rush or frustrates the process); and he actively listens to my concerns. For example, he takes the time to explain everything (i.e., diagnoses, prognoses, surgical/medical procedures; risks; benefits; factors; plan of treatment/action; etc.); and answer all of my questions; including giving me space to present information I came across,(i.e., a process, idea, concept, surgical/medical procedure, drug, therapy, and/or alternative method or treatment) regarding my health, and he will not get frustrated, agitated, or skirt around my questions/inquiries; neither does he appear perturbed or offended (Like how dare you? I’m the doctor and expert here; and I am the only one that can make suggestions or initiate and entertain ideas and concepts regarding your care. Silly patient! How dare you show any interest in your health?). This may seem like an over-dramatization; however, I promise you I have experienced this from many… doctors before; which is one of the main reasons why I loathed doctor visits and the entire medical/healthcare system and process. I guess what I am trying to say is that Dr. Figg is secure in who he is as a person, and as a medical professional; as such, he doesn’t respond as if he feels threatened; nor does he try to belittle his patient in order to compensate for his own insecurities, patient stereotyping, and prejudice; which can, and often does, adversely affect a physician’s tone and demeanor, and mars the purpose of the visit; and often times, the office visit itself. Hence, I am not hesitant to state, this is one of the many reasons I respect and appreciate Dr. Figg –not only as a medical professional, but as a person (human being). Dr. Figg and his office staff are always prompt in replying to my telephone, fax, and/or online requests, etc., and I am never left waiting: If my appointment is 2:15pm, I am usually called within 5 to 10 minutes, or 15 minutes tops. As such, Dr. Figg not only appreciates and respects his time as valuable; he also reciprocates the same for his patients. Dr. Figg came highly recommended; and I can honestly say that it was one of the best recommendations I have ever received; and believe it or not, I actually look forward to the visits.
