Dr. Greg Johnson is a board certified orthodontist that loves his practice of orthodontics and the opportunity that it provides in making gorgeous, confident smiles for his patients. From the same Irvine location over 30 years, Dr. Johnson has worked his “smile wonders” for more than 7,000 patients, helping to improve their lives forever.
Professional Training
A Dean’s List student in college, Dr. Johnson was admitted to dental school at the tender age of 18 years old. After graduating from the University of Pacific, School of Dentistry in San Francisco, California, Dr. Johnson practiced general dentistry for two years. After acquiring valuable experience as a general dentist, Dr. Johnson entered orthodontic training at the University of Detroit, School of Dentistry, Department of Orthodontics. While completing his certificate in orthodontics, he also earned a Master of Science degree. Dr. Johnson’s master’s degree research in cleft palate treatment …was honored with a published article in the prestigious The Cleft Palate Journal. Dr. Johnson was also awarded the Chairman’s Key Award for outstanding achievement in the orthodontic training program.
Dr. Johnson has received specialty board certification and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He is also a member of the American Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Johnson has served his profession in leadership positions at the local, regional and national levels for 30 years, including serving as president of the California Association of Orthodontists. In recognition of his service to his patients and profession, Dr. Johnson was honored as a Fellow in the American College of Dentists. This honor is awarded to only five percent of dental professionals worldwide and was bestowed upon Dr. Johnson through a select process in recognition of his contributions to the health and welfare of the dental profession and its patients. The California Association of Orthodontists further honored Dr. Johnson in 2005 by awarding him the prestigious Distinguished Service Award.
Professional Experience
Dr. Johnson has been practicing orthodontics and serving the greater Orange County area from the same location in Irvine for over 30 years. Prior to opening the Irvine office, Dr. Johnson associated with five other orthodontists in Orange County for a period of two years while gaining valuable experience and practice expertise.
In addition to the daily love for making beautiful smiles, Dr. Johnson has been very involved in teaching others about orthodontics. For seven years he was an Associate Professor in the Department of Oral Surgery at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Long Beach and at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. Dr. Johnson also taught orthodontic techniques to prospective Registered Dental Assistant candidates at the Orange Coast Community College for over 20 years. He has also served as an Orthodontic Consultant and lecturer for the Unitek 3M Corporation in development of cutting-edge treatment techniques and appliances.
Personal Profile
Outside the orthodontic office, Dr. Johnson and his wife, Debbie, have kept busy raising their daughter and two sons in our local community. The Johnson family has supported Dr. Johnson in his pastime of restoring and competing in vintage car racing. Over the last 20 years, their experiences have taken the family to racing competitions in Monterey, California to Le Mans, France.
Dr. Johnson is also an avid and accomplished photographer. With his experience and passion for race cars, he found a natural outlet for his artistic side in photographing professional racing events. This love of motorsport and photography has led Dr. Johnson to his role as a professional photographer and journalist covering international motorsport events for major magazines with international circulation.
