Dr. Gregory D. Powell, MD, MBA

Dr. Powell is an incompetent physician. He refuses to prescribe anything stronger than Tramadol for severe pain and charges $200 (which his staff cannot figure out how to correctly bill) for 20 seconds of his time, during which he will ask 0 questions and complete 0 examination. He left me sitting for 1.5 hours with severe back pain after a car accident to the point where I was in tears. Make no mistake, I will be filing a formal complaint to the state licensing board.

Dr. Powell is great. Make sure if you are having a procedure verify if you are being put to sleep and that the anesthesiologist has been verified as part of the procedure as well. I was told insurance verification for mine was a "curtesy". They failed to tell my insurance company that they were putting me to sleep therefore my insurance did not cover the charges and I was stuck with the bill. The bill was $9000, and I was asleep for less than 10 minutes. Rather unnerving to say the least. I got the bill down with NO HELP from the precertification department. They told me it fell under "other expenses".

Dr Powell is a rare breed of doctor. He he very knowledgeable and stays current with new procedures but also has a very personable manner about him. He puts you at ease no matter what the situation is. Would highly recommend Dr Powell

Dr. Powell was a very good doctor the first year he was my pain doctor. The next 6 months I never saw the doctor, he had me meet with his physician's assistant (PA). Because I changed insurance companies at the beginning of the year I began getting my Fentanyl Patch at the 4th largest pharmaceutical company in the country. Their generic brand is wrapped in silicone. The silicone caused me to get rashes. When we checked with 2 pharmaceutical manager's they said this happens frequently and all the doctor does is request non-generic patches. I came in on my normal monthly visit at Dr. Powell's office. I said I had an appointment with my general practitioner (GP) after this appointment to have her look at a rash that developed. As expected I was allergic to the silicone and was given an ointment to put on the rash which cleared it up in 2 weeks and I was obviously told to not use patches enclosed in silicone going forward. Unfortunately, the PA thought incorrectly that… this patch from the 4th largest pharmaceutical company wasn't produced any more. She told me that I needed to come back after my GP appointment and give her the patch I was wearing and any other patches I had like this (I returned 7 days of patches which shows I wasn't seeking drugs). She said when this was brought back later in the day, I would be given my normal monthly patch script and other scripts would be ready. She said she talked to the doctor and the doctor mentioned several alternatives that we will discuss in detail next month. When we tried to get my patch script after the GP session neither the PA or the doctor were available. Instead of getting my normal Fentanyl script that I was on for 5 years, my Oxycontin prescription was increased from 3 mg a day to 15 mg. I had severe breakthrough pain that wakes me up twice a night for over 45 minutes each time. I have been suffering severe itching from my elbows down and my knees down. My throat is constantly partially closed and my blood pressure is up 40 points. We called the PA and doctor on 3 separate days and never got a return call despite saying this was urgent. Finally when the Oxycontin prescription ran out at 4:00 AM and for the first time in more than 5 years I had no pain medication and was in the worst pain I had ever experienced. I was pulled off of 2 highly addictive but very helpful medications cold turkey. Finally, I was told I could see my doctor at 10:00 AM that same day. I was hopeful that finally these errors would be corrected. I couldn't even walk to the last office where I was put (I sat on my walker on wheels and used my feet to walk myself to the office) because of my pain. The PA came in and slapped down another Oxycontin script, wouldn't allow me to talk and the PA said, "The doctor is firing you" and she walked out of the office.. The administrative head came in and told me I wasn't being fired, the doctor wasn't treating chronically ill patients any longer. I asked her when this started since 2 weeks ago I was told we were going to discuss different alternatives to help my chronic pain. She said they were moving out all their chronically ill patients (there are 27 other doctors in this practice) out of their entire practice. They couldn't have a doctor speak to me for 2 minutes so I could explain the side effects I was experiencing because of being pulled cold turkey off of 1 medication after 5 years and another medication was increased 5 times. Additionally, I wanted to tell a doctor that 3 critical calls were never returned by their practice. Finally, I was lied too so I could be brought into their office and be fired. I felt this was simply cruel and obviously this entire 28 doctor practice is really just a corporation that only cares about money and not the critically ill. I am a chronically ill, bedridden disabled individual and I was cast aside since writing a script to a person who will live in chronic pain in a bed for the rest of my life isn't profitable for this 28 doctor medical practice. I would be careful if I was any individual looking to this practice for their medical care. If you fall below a certain dollar threshold of profitability from these 28 doctors you too will be cast aside like trash. Obviously some people go to medical school to help people, others go to medical school simply to make money and they do not care about their patients. Finally, because I had a doctor's appointment I didn't want to leave until I spoke to a doctor. This 28 doctor practice had 3 Dallas Police Officers come to their practice and threaten to arrest me and put me in jail. All because I was waiting to speak to a doctor since I had a doctor's appointment. A frail chronically ill disabled person in a walker on wheels was escorted out of this practice because I wasn't profitable. You too can be discarded if you aren't profitable.

I had seen many doctors before Dr. Powell and none of them could figure out my issues and what was causing my pain. Dr. Powell listened to me and figured out that it was not a back issue but a hip issue causing my problems. Dr. Powell got me back on track.

Dr. Powell is a fantastic doctor and I loved his assistant Heather, when I heard she had been fired from the office manager I was devastated. One of the main reasons I enjoyed coming monthly was the professionalism brought by Dr. Powell and Heather! My experience with the office manager has always been terrible, she is not a genuine/professional person! (Every encounter I've had with Shirley she's treated me horrible, and her clothes are always too tight!) Between Shirley and Maria up front being rude and non caring as well as heather being gone I now will be looking for another physician unless Dr. Powell was to move from that practice then I would of course follow him again!

Dr. Powell is professional, curteous and prompt. Provides excellent patient care, answers questions and concerns, provides prompt attention to details of your personal medical needs. His Staff are knowledgable and caring. I highly recommend Dr. Powell.

In addition to being an excellent doctor in his field, Dr. Powell is a wonderful, caring human being. He never rushed through my appointments. I've been going to him for several years now for pain management. My husband, daughter and friends also see him. He recently installed a spinal cord stimulator into by back. It is healing as it should, and is starting to work against the pain I have. By doing this, he has saved me from further spinal surgery (I have already has a lumbar triple fusion). I highly recommend him AND his caring staff!

Dr Powell is great and very concerned with your pain and will definantly NOT over medicate you. His staff on the other hand is extremely curt. His assistant Heather seems miserable and all of them act like they are bothered to do their job. Maria up front is down right rude and not afraid to show that she feels put out by patients. Shaniqua the message girl is the only one I felt was genuinly nice. Very unorganized office and once you finally get called back they rush you out of their without explaining their office protocol.
