Dr. Gregory Scott Smith, MD

His staff is incompetent both in the office and in the procedure facility. I was there for 2.5 hours waiting for the procedure and his staff took others ahead of me (in error) causing me distress and the person waiting for me. Then the office calls me out of the blue 3 months later beginning the conversation with my having a past due balance. NEVER was I EVER sent a bill prior to that call. I hate having to pay him anything for this horrible experience. I will be telling my G.P.

I never been to doctor appointment & never met the doctor. All you see is the PA or NP. They said the doctor will be doing my procedure. Who want to meet a doctor at the time to do a procedure. They lie about my appointment & test. The PA couldn’t answer my questions. So many red flags. I went to Emory & got the care I needed within a week. Take this serious, don’t go to Dr Gregory Smith. Don’t trust the staff either. The only ones I trusted was the ladies that did the capsule test.

Not only are Dr. Gregory Smith and his staff is very rude and unprofessional. They treat people like they are an inconvenience when they have to come in to be checked for anything. I am 26 years old and I came in to get a colonoscopy due to a family history of colon cancer at young ages, and Dr. Gregory and his staff were very rude. Not only with a very red but they failed to perform a pregnancy test and put me under anesthesia at five months. This is an unexpected pregnancy due to the fact that I was on birth control, and should’ve never been placed under anesthesia. As a medical professional myself I realize that I have every right to see the doctor, but I am thankful that there’s nothing wrong with my child however I will never go to the doctor again! When I brought this matter to his attention and his staff they told me that was my fault for not knowing that I was pregnant, because even though every other aAs a medical professional myself I realize That mistakes happen. Needless to say I will never see this doctor again and I do not recommend him to anybody.

You know he's a doctor you can trust when most of his own employees are his patients. When you work closely with a medical provider, you know what kind of professional you are working with. Dr. Smith and Mary Dotson are most trustworthy and caring individuals and have a passion for what their field of work.

Dr. Gregory Smith has been my GI physician since 2002. His office used to be in a tight rental space, but since 2006 he built a beautiful office that looks like a ski resort. The décor is very warm, inviting, and comfortable. Dr. Smith is one of the few doctors I know who is passionate about what he does and isnâ??t in it for the money. In fact, I have learned that he volunteers his time to health clinics for those who are financially challenged and to educating medical students interning at his office in addition to donating to several organizations. How many doctors do you know that contribute to their community? Dr. Smith is very personable with a great sense of humor. Sometimes he has to get on to me because he truly cares about my health and I can be a little stubborn about following doctorâ??s advice-- which is why I have to keep coming back. His nurse practitioner, Mary Dotson, is also wonderful and easy to talk to. They have tag-teamed to get to the â??bottomâ?? of my… digestive problems and have helped me find ways to manage my care/treatment. I would probably be at least 99% better if not for my own stubbornness in eating things I know Iâ??m not supposed to eat. For the most part, I have been met with friendly staff from the moment I walk through the door to the time I check out. I canâ??t tell you how often I have gone to a doctorâ??s office and the staff was horrible to meâ??I donâ??t pay good money for bad service! When it comes to my health, I donâ??t â??call aroundâ?? for pricingâ??I go by word of mouth regarding the QUALITY OF CARE. I had heard good things about Dr. Smith, tried him out, and have been with him and his office ever since. I REALLY appreciate the EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE and HEALTH CARE I receive at Athens Gastro Center. I highly recommend them.

Beware. Equipment breakdown, 4 hours laying on table just waiting, TERRIBLE. Charged me full out-of-pocket fees without reimbursement discount. TERRIBLE. My driver lost a full day of work for a scheduled 1.5 hr appt. Didn't care about me as patient but sure loves the money. Inconvenience him by being late for an appt. or missing and see what he charges you.....all about the money. TERRIBLE

Just so you know before going: the results of your exam will be heard by patients in the accompanying "waiting areas." While waiting forever for my colonoscopy (and by the way, the "drugs" never worked, although the nurse had to unsuccessfully poke me about 5 times; I was present and aware of the entire procedure, including Dr. Smith's factory-line approach). But what troubled me was that while waiting--forever, I heard Dr. Smith give his feedback on the various procedures to the neighboring patients (one is separated only by a curtain). So obviously, at least two other patients and their families heard the results of my colonoscopy. Bad form all around. I told my GP who recommended him: NEVER AGAIN. Never send me there again.

Money is clearly the reason Dr. Smith is in business. I've seen him for many years and haven't had one positive health result. After he preformed an endoscopy, I was diagnosed with H-Pylori a bacteria which can cause cancer. After treatment for H-Pylori, I was given a breath test that was administered incorrectly. I read the directions and it clearly states that you "CAN'T take Proton Pump Inhibitors (Nexium/Prilosec) for two weeks prior to the breath test. I informed the nurse practitioner that I had been taking the Proton Pump Inhibitors several times that week. She ignored the fact that I had eaten and taken PPI's the day of my breath test. The test directions also said you have to administer the breath test "15" minutes after swallowing the test liquid. The NP came into my room and administered the breast test exactly 3 minutes later. I timed it on my watch. I expressed concern that my breath test was administered inappropriately. She blew me off and said it would be… fine. Now my insurance won't pay for another H-Pylori test. I went back to my Primary Care Physician and he was shocked at how the test was administered. He sent me to a lab to repeat the test. Sure enough, the H-Pylori test showed positive. In a nutshell, DO NOT SEE this practice!!! They will quickly separate you from your money, up sell you on unnecessary, highly expensive tests. Last, after spending over 13 thousand dollars with this practice, I still have H-Pylori. If you're smart, you won't allow this to happen to you. Good luck with your health!

The doctor and staff are arrogant. If you are of Hispanic decent or under the age of thirty, you are just a a waste of time and space. I almost died in his care, after he drained my insurance till they dropped me( had structure and begged to have surgery, pleaded for eight months) But that was after a office nurse cursed my husband when he called during an emergency. If you want to chance dying before getting the recommended care go here.

I would not recommend this dr. to no one. past experience was devaststing and disgust
