Dr. Gregory Ryan Spears, DO

My wife and I both saw Dr. Spears and miss him. We saw him it Dignity Health before he moved to Bentonville, AR.

While Dr Spears is fairly good (he did misdiagnose me twice and it cost more $$ to go back each time - plus he likes a lot of “follow up” visits scheduled - repeat visits that are purely insurance-paid; many more than any doctor I’ve ever seen $$). I can easily just cancel or not schedule those. What is the worst of all is his staff. Missing scrip fills that were asked for in front of the doctor (then forcing another visit $$) and ignoring billing questions and other communications through the portal. Posting no results unless they are asked / begged for (portal is supposed to be anything accessed 24 / 7; billing, results and records) and not billing insurance properly (if at all) so exorbitant bills end up in the mailbox and nasty robocall messages on the voicemail. Then I have to drop a message and usually not get a reply. Calls need to be made to insurance and other entities. This has lost this doctor my business.

I started seeing Dr. Spears when we relocated to NWA a few months ago. He’s an excellent listener and takes the time to understand my concerns. He is caring, thorough, easy to talk with and follows through with recommendations. I highly recommend Dr. Spears for primary care in the Bentonville area.

I saw Dr Spears twice in a 7 day time. Once for myself and once for my teen aged son as we were attempting to establish care with a family doctor in Bentonville. I was not seeking a refill or any change in medications. This visit was entirely a meet & greet. I have successfully taken a daily maintenance medication for 3 years to prevent migraine which I have had since childhood. I was advised that eliminating white flour and sugar from my diet would likely eliminate migraine and/or allow me to indulge in known migraine triggers like chocolate and red wine again which are not goals of mine. I was not asked about elimination diets or my history of migraine treatment. His stated goal was to get me off of the managemnet med I had no complaints about for no clear reason. I disregarded that as he had a nice conversational manner and scheduled an appointment for my son where things went from not great to terrible. My son has had ADHD his entire life and manages better on meds than off. … He was requesting to go back on meds as he had tried being off of them with little success and many struggles. We were again told that eliminating white flour and sugar and firming up his sleep schedule (which is quite set with school in place and which we had discussed) would eliminate his need for ADHD meds. We were also told that we need to be his "parents not his friends" which is generally advice I would agree with, it just isn't something I'm guilty of *in the least* and this doctor was incredibly out of line making that a causation of my son's situation based on a 5 minute chat. This is a "well meaning" man who is probably compitent to treat your sinus infection or flu but I would not recommend him for comprehensive care if you require maintenance meds and a lack of condescension. I feel like his model of care would fit in better at a chiropractic or alternative health center where I would not have accidentally come across him. I have Walmart insurance and was charged $218 for my visit and $140 for my son's which are both outrageous compared with the charges I am generally facing for co-insurance at doctor visits. Yesterday at Dermatology for example, it was $40. My last PCP visit was $51 at I St. Mercy. My star in this review is for the woman at the front desk who checks you in and out. I am sad to say I didn't get her name. She is friendly & competent and a joy to interact with.

I've been seeing Dr Spears for years, and he's excellent. Takes good care of us and is always willing to see us on short notice. Takes time to explain things in a calm reasonable manner.
