Dr. Gretchen Renae Winter

While I will credit Dr Winters for spending a significant amount of time reading my chart before I arrived, and for spending a notable amount of time in my appt with me, I was extremely put off by her repeated curt interruptions of my attempts to speak or answer questions she had asked me, her method of using the time to speak "at" me instead of to or with me about my care, her assumption that other doctors might have missed something she could find by discussing care and diagnostic testing from two years previous which had already been addressed and treated and just in general treating me like I must not understand what she was saying as a patient. Of course there are patients who find medical jargon to be overwhelming or confusing, but my typical experience as a patient who spent two decades working in medical has been that when I speak in medical terms to a doctor they speak in medical terms back because my usage has indicated to them that I do understand it. It's unnecessary in… those situations to repeat over and over "let me put that in simple terms" or "thats just a fancy way of saying" when the patient has said "I know what that means" . I was talked over, ignored, told to pursue treatments which either have already been tried and failed or for which I am not a good candidate due to other health issues, all for symptoms which were present 2 years ago and in no way addressed what the follow up was actually for. I nearly left the appointment in the middle, because I felt she was making it clear she didn't feel I needed to be there, at which point she denied that was the case, and then at the end of the appt did say that I didn't need to remain with pulmonology if I don't want to after all. I'd only returned to have a single dx cleared up which I had achieved. Perhaps if she had left me finish my first statement about what I was being seen for, she would have known that. I won't be returning.
