Dr. Guilherme Costa, MD

Dr. Costa is a very caring doctor. He explains everything to you and makes sure that you understand. He makes sure that things are done right. When in the hospital, he visits every day and makes sure that all of your questions and concerns are addressed. He always shakes your hand when he comes in the room. I can’t say enough good things about him. He gave me back my quality of life.

Dr. Costa was part of the team overseeing my gut rehab surgery and recovery a year ago. I felt completely at ease and grateful when he was doing the daily rounds, as you just knew with him that whatever needed tending to was going to have an appropriate solution put in place. On one occasion, I learned that the previous two nights in a row he had performed emergency surgery, going home at 5am and his attentiveness and profficiency was exactly the same nevertheless. He has an ability to concentrate like someone who has meditated for 30 years. Thanks to him and Dr.Kareem, I am doing great a year later with no significant problems.

Dr. Costa explains everything to you and makes sure that you understand. He takes every precaution before surgery and always greets you with a handshake and a smile. He gave me back a normal life. I wouldn't hesitate having he perform any surgery, if needed. My family and I have the utmost respect for him.

I absolutely love Dr Costa and the entire transplant team. He is so very kind and super intelligent. He is a great listener and has a huge heart. The only negative about this group is their nurse Shatina. She is rude, doesn’t return phone calls and lies. I get anxiety every time I have to speak with her. She speaks down to patients, says she will call you back and never does and acts like a bully. It took me almost 4 weeks to get a question answered about a concern I had. I would leave message after message (3-4 a week) with no calls returned from her. After this went on for almost 4 weeks, I purposely called the doctor on call over the weekend to ask my question and concerns which required some testing to be done and health problems were found. I received a nasty message from Shatina the Monday she returned to work. No patient should be treated or spoken to the way she does. Then she lied to the doctors and stated she had called me several times trying to reach me. She is a huge… problem and has no empathy for patients that are so ill and in so much pain. She is so unprofessional and rude. I would recommend Dr Costa to any patient but then warn them about Shatina. He is a wonderful doctor

Dr. Costa and Dr. Kareem Abu Elmagd were my Transplant surgeons 10 years ago. Without prayer and their knowledge and expertise, I would not be alive and doing as well as I am. Love These wonderful surgeons

Not only was he knowledgeable of my condition but he also took the time to truly listen to my story, concerns and questions, and respond to them as well as amy issues that arose postoperatively. His level of expertise is second to none and his demeanor truly exemplifies a man very dedicated to his craft and calling of taking care of others.

Dr Costa and his group at CC are not sincere. They operate on you, then throw you to the wolves when you are having difficulties. Very disappointed and I should have not been a fool and known from the start that patients today are just numbers. Pretty crummy having to be a patient.

I have known Dr. Costa since 2011. He is one of the most caring and skilled person I have ever known. He cares so much about his patients. Dr. Costa was meant to be a transplant surgeon. I trust him unconditionally with my life and well being. He saved my life a number of times. I feel like a better person for knowing Dr. Costa. Many of my friends who were under his care had their lives saved or extended. He is always got patients interest first. He cares about not just quantity of life but quality. For those who have stated in earlier recommendations/critiques may or may not have given him a chance. Please for those who need to get a doctor to treat intestinal issues choose to see Dr. Costa as he is the very best of the best. So many of my friends agree with me who have spent much time under his care as well as new patients.

I came to Cleveland Clinic for the intestinal transplant group. They operated on me after a very thoughtful evaluation and frank discussion of both my options, and the potential complications ahead. Dr. Costa listened to me and heard what I was saying. He addressed every issue and was very respectful.

Dr Costa was always there to listen to me and my family if we had any questions. He was always on top of my care. I would call my into the office late at night if I was having problems from my transplant. He would always get back in touch with them and have me come to the hospital. He would come see me in the ER or if i was sent straight to a room. He always came to see me in the clinic, when I was there to have 6 month check up. I never saw him being rude or bulling nurses around. He was very compassionate with me and all the other transplant patients.
