Dr. Gurkirpal Singh Nijjar, MD

I have been seeing Dr. Nijjar for over 20 years. I read some of the other reviews and I could not disagree more with the overall rating, of 2.2. I work in the field of mental health and have come in contact with several psychiatrists over 30+ years, of work. Only a few in the Capital District area, have I felt confident to refer another person to. Dr. Nijjar is one, I have found him to be intelligent, sensitive, caring, very good recall of my personal issues, professional, genuinely concerned for my well-being, lovely office setting, patient, knowledge of medications, consistent with the same questions, friendly, and quite fair. I will fill in where Dr. Nijjar has lived with imperfections like me:a few times when I called he was not in his office; in over 20 year span, I remember waiting 15 minutes in his office ONE TIME before being seen; he has interrupted me at times (so what, I’ve done the same); and “asks same questions” is how he monitors the medication you are taking to… determine if he needs to make changes (he’s the doctor, you are the patient).

Interrupts you when you’re talking. Says “no thats not what I’m asking” a lot or “im asking- yes or no” cant seem to be bothered to remember anything from past visits so asks the same thing and acts surprised when you tell him something you mentioned 4 other times. Doesnt listen to the patient and thinks he knows you better than yourself. Wanted to put me on a medicine that made me suicidal in the past instead of staying with the regime that has been working for the past few years... yeah okay. Shouldn’t be a psychiatrist dealing with people with mental illness. Shouldn't be leaving his office in tears or irritated.

is a fine psychiatrist. I've been seeing him since 2007. He has limited appointments since his private practice is only some evenings. He is kind and helpful.

You will never be able to get in touch with him. You may run out of medication because you leave messages that are never answered. Would not recommend

I think Dr. Nijjar is a very caring and Professional person.He has been my doctor for many years after a head injury and depression.

No compassion. Thinks he knows the patient and the conditions better than the one going through it.
