Severity of the patient’s cytopenia. ? Degree of leukemic progression (% marrow blasts). ? Patient’s age. These factors, in turn, are reflected in the IPSS [46] previously described. The main goal in the elderly patient should be to ameliorate their cytopenias when they become transfusion-dependent, wherein the clinician should be reminded of the first principle of medical care: “First do no harm.”
