I went to the St. Luke's Breast Center for a standarad mammogram, normally covered by Cigna. I was told since I had a lump, I had to have a diagnostic mammogram. This turned out to be a procedure that they billed for over $1,100. No discussion was ever made with me as to what my insurance would or wouldn't cover. I know the payment is my responsibility, but normally in an expensive procedure, I expect a dr's office to give me a heads up and let me know what to expect. I spent several months of back and forth trying to at the very least ask them to let future patients know this ahead of time. In the end, I had paid one of my two bills and without notifying me, they send the other one to collections. They blame this on their billing officeI've found that normally the best doctors also have front desks and billing departments that have their act together, as well. I'm going to try to find one of those places.
