What is a gynecologist?

A gynecologist is a medical doctor (MD) or osteopathic doctor (DO) who specializes in the female reproductive system. Usually, gynecologists are also obstetricians, who treat pregnant women and help deliver babies. Thus, most of these doctors are known as obstetricians-gynecologists, or OB/GYNs. However, some doctors choose to focus on just obstetrics or just gynecology.

To help women with their reproductive health issues, gynecologists' services and treatments include annual exams, infertility treatment, management of menopause, treatment of sexually transmitted diseases and prenatal care.
