Dr. Gyula Laszlo Zsigmond

I heard great things about Dr. Zsigmond from my Primary Care providers. When I first met him, he seemed very distant and even smirked at me when I showed concern about my problem. He spent about 15 seconds "diagnosing" my problem. He did not want to spend any other time with me discussing it. I felt rushed and unprepared but I just went with it because his background was supposedly very good. I always look into my doctors but for some reason this time I didn't, and now looking more into him, there isn't a lot written about him. His nurse seemed okay but very unprofessionally dressed and her area smelled like her lunch which was very off-putting. They scheduled me for surgery. I met with the anesthesiologist right away and what a polar opposite! Dr. John Churnin was amazing and put me at ease. He spent the time with me explaining other concerns that Dr. Zsigmond didn't even want to get into. When the day of surgery came around, Dr. Zsigmond said a quick hello while I was in… their waiting area but I didn't even see him before my surgery or after. He never followed up with me. It's like I didn't exist. Dr. Churnin called to follow-up with me after I had a question the day after surgery and was very receptive. Six days later and I had to go to my Primary Care Doctor because I did not even want to bother with seeing Dr. Zsigmond. My doctor had to take a culture of my incision area and put me on a very high dose of antibiotics to treat what may be an infection. I was supposed to "bounce right back" and be at work the next day. I have missed a total of three days of work already. All in all...I am just disappointed in the care that I received. Maybe it is because I am younger than most patients he sees? Maybe because I didn't have a huge problem? I understand that my surgery wasn't a huge surgery but I don't think it matters how big the problem is, a patient should receive the best care a physician can give and unfortunately, I would not recommend Dr. Zsigmond to my friends or family and will be passing the word along to my Primary Care Physicians. I wish my story were better but I am glad to see that some people here had good experiences with him. I am sure he is a great surgeon and maybe I expected a little more compassion than some people. I have never written out one of these before but I have never been so inclined to do so...overall, I hope this helps.

Dr. Zsigmond put me at ease. He and his long time secretary, Peggy, were positive and made me feel better about something of which I was frightened. BTW, they were right -- everything turned out fine !!!

Dr Zsigmond performed a total thyroid removal(cancerous). He is skilled, knowledgable, (performs 2-3 per month) and extremely kind. He always has a huge contagious smile which immediate;y helped ease my concerns. I was referred to Dr. Zsigmond througfh both a Radio-Oncology Physician as well as my Primary Care Physician. They both told my husband and I that he was the BEST and they would trust him with their lives. All so true. Nurses also mentioned they would seek Dr. Zsigmond for sugery as well since he comes with such an excellent and impressive reputation. The doctor exceeded my expectations in all areas; pre and post surgery as well as recovery in the hospital. Many asked why I did not have the surgery performed at Stanford especially since it is closer to my home. I would tell everyone that Dr Zsigmond is phenominal and worth the exra driving distance.
