My bad experience began with my stating a preference for one hospital over the other at my consultation and stating that I would only have surgery at the Augusta campus. This was agreed upon up front. My husband and I made arrangements with our work for the time off for my surgery. Five days before my surgery this office contacted me and stated they were trying to consolidate appointments in Waterville and wanted me to have my surgery there instead of in Augusta. I explained that my only stipulation with choosing this surgeon was that i have my my surgery at the Augusta campus. They then tried to change my appointment to a later date and I explained how this too was a problem as my husband and I both had to make arrangements with our employers. I was told to make my choice and let them know my decision. A few minutes later they left me a message saying that my surgery would be as scheduled in Augusta. I thought that was the end of it. Three days before my surgery there was a voice… message stating that they were reaching out for Dr. Kumar to see if I would reconsider having my surgery in Waterville. At this point I was so stressed out. I called back and got their voice mail. I stated how stressed they were making me and that I didn't know what part of "I will not have my surgery in Waterville " that they didn't understand, but I will not have surgery in Waterville. I stated that if they were unable to perform my surgery when and where they scheduled me to, that they should let me know and I would find a different surgeon. Long story short, my surgery would be when and where scheduled. Prior to my surgery I had an emotional meltdown from all the stress and now worried that my life is in the hands of someone who is probably angry at me. I have the surgery, go home and the next day notice that the largest incision doesn't look good and tell my husband that I can tell that ones going to be a problem. I develop thrush and a few days later start running a fever. I ended up going to the ER after a continuous fever and then shortness of breath. After many tests and blood work I was told that I had hospital acquired pneumonia and my incision was very infected. Needless to say, my experience has not been good. My only expectation throughout all of this was an apology for all the stress they put on me and that never happened. I don't think that he is a bad surgeon, but my personal experience was so upsetting and I felt like my needs were insignificant. All of my after care was good.
