Dr. Har Chi Lau, MD

Dr. Lau could not have been more rude, unprofessional or hateful! From the moment he walked into the exam room, he was rushed and in a foul mood. He interrupted and talked over me each time I began to speak, never letting me answer a question! He also lied about his expertise in handling complex, incarcerated (out of groin) hernias, claiming he was unable to properly correct it and therefore couldn't do the necessary surgery. This, despite his clinical staff being fully informed of the particulars of my hernia ahead of time, and telling me that Dr. Lau said he could do the operation without a problem. The net result was that the appointment was set up by Lau's office under totally false pretense, merely to bill my insurance for a bogus visit that served no purpose. Along with being dishonest, Dr. Lau has zero respect for senior-aged patients, and left me to suffer without even offering any assistance in finding a surgeon with the skillsets necessary to perform my surgery. … For your own health and well-being, this is a doctor to avoid!!

I regret trusting Dr. Lau and Phelps Hospital. Dr. Har Chi Lau performed a hernia surgery on my husband. On the day of surgery, we entered Phelps hospital at 8 am. At three o'clock in the afternoon, Dr. Lau told me on the phone that the surgery went well and my husband could go home the same day. At 7:00 p.m., they guided me to the recovery room. My husband was breathing hard. The nurse in charge told me that Dr. Lau had discharged my husband, but she couldn't allow it. She said he was not breathing well. At 11 p.m., my husband was transferred to a room on the hospital's third floor. And due to the lack of staff at that time, my husband was placed on the hospital bed in negligence, and he endured terrible pain due to being moved on the bed and cried loudly. He was in the hospital for two days and could hardly breathe. I requested to visit a lung doctor or pulmonologist. The lung doctor saw him and did not understand. My husband was discharged two days after surgery. Four hours after… we got home, he had symptoms like nausea. I called Dr. Lau, and he told me not to worry. Let him rest. I called Dr. Lau twice. I did not get the result. Two hours had passed. I called 911. They came and took my husband to another hospital. He passed away in the ambulance. I regret trusting Dr. Lau and Phelps Hospital. My life is miserable after my husband’s death. I can’t forgive myself. Why did I trust them?

Knowing I had a vacation planned in four weeks, Dr. Lau scheduled my laparoscopic gall bladder surgery asap. My surgery went smoothly just as Dr.Lau explained it would, and healed and recuperated quicker than I expected. Dr. Lau is an excellent doctor and surgeon. I highly recommend him. I was very, very satisfied. I want to thank Dr. Lau and his staff for their kind and professional treatment before, during and after my surgery.

Dr Lau performed inguinal hernia repair using laparoscopic method. Very competent. Surgery repair went better than expected. Dr Lau is excellent in all manners of patient treatment, from accurate diagnosis, through surgery performance, to follow up. Highly recommended.

Dr. Lua is an incredible doctor. I have had to have several medical procedures completed and there is no one else I would have trusted. He is knowledgable and will sit and take the time to explain everything. He is top notch and is an asset to the medical field.

Dr. Lau is an total professional who took the trouble to explain everything about my injury, including the different options for treatment. He discussed with me the various factors that could influence recovery, as well as the pros and cons of each option. He is the best most professional Doctor I have come in contact with a friendly demeanor and excellent bedside manner. Truly the best !
