Dr. Hardik M Shah, DO

I first saw Dr. Shah when he was relatively new to private practice in the early 1990's. After moving away for a few years, I began to see him again as my primary physician when I returned to the Detroit area. For me, he sets the benchmark for what a professional medical advisor should be. He's caring, compassionate and extremely knowledgeable; and importantly, he's willing to listen to what the patient has to say. He's willing to admit that he may not know everything about some specific conditions, and will readily suggest someone he thinks is more qualified. He takes an interest in caring for the whole person. During an extremely stressful time in my life, he commented that it "seemed like something was really bothering" me, and asked me if I wanted to talk about it. He was very helpful, suggesting alternative approaches such as meditation and yoga, as well as some books I should consider reading. Most doctors today just don't do that. While he's not a naturopath per se, he… will suggest treatments outside of prescription medicine when appropriate. The one downside is that wait times can stretch beyond your appointment time, and sometimes he's scrambling a bit when he gets behind schedule. That's the tradeoff you make when you see a doctor that's willing to take some extra time with you. It's certainly a fair tradeoff in this case.Over the past decade, he has specialized in neuromusculoskeletal medicine, and is a leading doctor in the treatment of joint pain and injury through the use of prolotherapy. Long ago sports injuries left me with arthritis in both shoulders and intermittent but significant pain around my rotator cuffs. After several prolotherapy treatments over many months, I can now workout extremely hard, both weight training and cardio, with minimal inflammation and pain. It's not an instant fix, but it works, and results in a stronger joint overall.If you're looking for a primary care physician and a medical practice that you can call "home," Dr. Shah is certainly someone you should consider. If you're struggling with joint pain or injury, Dr. Shah is definitely someone you should see.

I have been a patient of Dr. Shah's for more than 8 years. I treat with him specifically for neuromuscular issues and I treat with other staff in the office as well for family practice. Dr. Shah is a true healer. He has been able to actually heal chronic pain problems that had existed for years prior, and has successfully healed several different issues which have arisen as a result of aging and other illnesses. I highly recommend Dr. Shah.

Dr. Shah is an excellent doctor who truly cares for his patients. He has a great bedside manner and is very dynamic with his treatment plans. I would highly recommend him!

I think Dr Shah is a great and very caring doctor with a good bedside manner which you don't find in most doctors now a days. He genuinely cares about his patients. The office staff (some of them) aren't very nice and that is sad because you shouldn't be in the medical field if you can't handle the stresses of working with people, especially those who are sick.
