Dr. Harris John Waters, MD

My dad went into silverton hospital with a fever. Dr waters ended up cutting off both of my dad's legs. He was told to get his fever under control and send him up to OHSU where he could be seen by the doctors up there, that he had been seeing for the last year. My dad did not have the mindset to be able to consent to any kind of surgery. We had made that clear in the e.r. that night. Dr waters decided that my dad's signature would suffice enough to make him a double amputee. My dad was a avid Fisher and Hunter. When he lost his legs it ended up putting him in such a depression that he lived his last 4 years of his life miserable. When he was finally taken up to OHSU the doctors ended up having to do another surgery on my dad to fix what Dr waters had done to my dads legs. They said he was a infection waiting to happen. Dr waters clearly was out of his expertise when he did this to my dad. He also decided when he did the surgery on my dad's legs that he would do the surgery with my dad… awake. He gave him a epidural. He said he didn't think my dad could handle the surgery if he was under anesthesia. So my 75 year old dad was awake through the whole procedure. Can you imagine how terrifying that would have been for my dad. All this was done to my dad after I had left the hospital for the night to go home. When I came to see my dad the next morning my dad looked at me and said they cut off my legs last night. I couldn't believe what had happened. My dad was a very tough hard working man. Who went through the worst time of his life because a doctor decided to do the unthinkable. We tried to bring suit against him, but since he had my dad's consent on paper it lifted all liabilities off of doctor waters. Even though my dad couldn't really consent. In the end he took what we're supposed to be my dad's golden fun years away from him. So sad but completely true story.
