Dr. Harry Shannon Simms, MD

First, let me say on a personal level, Harry Simms MD is a person I liked. He’s a good man with good intentions BUT HE MADE ALL KINDS OF MISTAKES! He wrote a lot of my prescriptions incorrectly and the staff members at the local cvs reported he was known have problems with other patients prescriptions. He also missed a notation from a radiologist during a lumber MRI that stated cysts were seen near the right kidney-he missed that detail entirely. The bottom line is he was probably a good doctor before I met him, but at his age and condition, no longer able to practice medicine. Moreover, he was a dinosaur unable to deal with modern methods of practicing medicine because he really didn’t understand computer terminology and when my doctor sent him a pdf file, he couldn’t even open it. He was completely illiterate as a modern doctor must know how to use a computer. It’s sad to say but I think he was way past his prime and glad to hear he retired. A lot of doctors practice long after… retirement age but that’s only okay if they’re competent. He no longer was. I wish him well but can’t help but feel he ultimately caused harm even if it was unintended.

I saw Dr Simms a few time but decided he was not for me. I wanted a Dr with a more collaborative model. As a former ER Dr, he seems used to telling a patient what to do without respecting their opinion well. I tried a year later to get an appointment with a different Dr in the office and they refused. I called back 4 or 5 times over a week and they said the note asking permission from Dr Simms for me to see a different Dr was still on his desk. I never received a call back and finally gave up and decided I did not want to support a practice where the politics and economics of the Dr's appears to be more important than taking care of patients.

He is attentive and good at drawing one out when one is hesitant. He follows up and inquires how one is doing. My one complaint is he tends to be rather 'woo woo' (ie New Age leanings, which make me uncomfortable as that is not my forte)Eager to recommend other doctos that one might be more comfortable with. Rather pushes treatments, prodedures. I guess he wants to cover all the bases and one just has to let him know what one is willing to do and not to do.Overall he is genuine in his concern.
