This is my PERSONAL experience with Dr. Harvey H. Breckner DMD, MS at 600 Country Club View, Edwardsville, IL 62025 - 618-307-3267. (also listed as 4 Country Club View, Edwardsville, IL 62025)
Over four years ago I was diagnosed with severe periodontal disease, gingivitis and bone loss from type II diabetes. I went to my wifeâ??s dentist but he did not feel that he could handle a case this severe, so he highly recommended that I go to Dr. Harvey Breckner DMD, MS, as he was supposed to be the â??bestâ??.
DR. HARVEY H. BRECKENR CREDENTIALS FROM HIS WEBSITE READS: â??Dr. Harvey H. Breckner has been treating the general and advanced dentistry needs of patients for more than 25 years. His highly-trained background includes earning a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree (DMD) from SIU-E School of Dental Medicine and an advanced Master of Science (MS) degree in Prosthodontics from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio. He subsequently completed a fellowship in… implant dentistry at The Ohio State University School of Dentistry.â??
I went to see Dr. Harvey H. Breckner DMD, MS and after his initial examination he determined that all of my teeth would need to be extracted and I would be fitted with dentures. He quoted us $18,000 for this procedure. We thought the price was high but knowing that there was a lot of damage and work to be done, we went ahead with the procedure.
After all of the teeth were extracted (except for three in the bottom front to anchor the bottom denture) and I healed for a week, I was fit with dentures. Right away I realized that there was a problem. I could not keep the dentures in my mouth, let alone eat with them. I went back to Dr. Harvey H. Breckner DMD, MS several times and had the dentures â??adjustedâ?? but I still could not keep them in to eat.
After the fourth adjustment of the top denture within a few weeks, Dr. Harvey H. Breckner DMD, MS told me that he figured that I would have a problem with my upper dentures because I have a very flat pallet (a shallow pallet). His next solution was to spend another $4,000 dollars to put a couple of plugs in the remaining bottom teeth and in the bottom denture to hold the dentures in. Needless to say we were very disturbed by this. We went ahead and spent the $4,000 for the bottom plugs â?? but the bottom dentures were still not stable and would not stay in if I opened my mouth wide enough to eat with utensils. We then discussed the next step so I could eat with teeth. We were quoted $40,000 - $60,000 more for bone grafts (done by a surgeon) and then receive implants for the upper teeth.
The final straw was when I went back for a cleaning of the three remaining bottom teeth and I was charged over $230.00. That's the time we decided to find another doctor.
My major issue with Dr. Harvey Breckner DMD, MS was that he never sat down with me and my wife at the beginning and discussed other options or told me that I would have a problem eating with the dentures, let alone just keeping them in. He recommended dentures knowing that I had a flat pallet and bone loss and then when I complained about them not staying in and not being able to eat with them, his next solution was to spend another $40,000-$60,000 to have implants just for the uppers still having to use the denture with plugs for the bottom denture (which still would not stay in). It felt like he did not care about what was right for me as his patient, but was just interested in making and much money off me as he could. Dr. Harvey H. Breckner told me recently (he called me to see why I havenâ??t been back in 3 years) that the cost of cleaning, fluoride treatment, and two x-rays for three teeth, and his cost to sterilize the equipment was why the bill was $230.00.
After consulting with several implant specialists over a period of three years, and a recommendation from the last doctor, we went to ClearChoice. All of the doctors that we consulted with were very surprised at the approach that Dr. Harvey H. Breckner DMD, MS took with me and felt that he not only did not do what was in my best interest, but had vastly over-charged me for the work already done. The more we talked to other doctors, the more we felt like we had been taken advantage of by Dr. Harvey H. Breckner DMD, MS. He was supposed to be the expert. I do not believe that he did not know that I would not be able to wear dentures. As far as I am concerned his treatment of me was not only unprofessional but also unethical.
My experience at ClearChoice was the exact opposite. They were very professional and I felt that they cared about me and wanted to help me return to a better quality of life. I have had both top and bottom implants done at ClearChoice, in one day, and could not be happier. For the first time in three years I have teeth I can eat with and I can be confident that I am not going to lose my dentures when I open my mouth. The price was also very reasonable compared to what Dr. Harvey H. Breckner DMD, MS was trying to charge me. I wish I had gone to ClearChoice in the beginning. Not only would I have been given the correct solution to start with, but I would also have saved over $20,000.
UPDATE:
Dr. Harvey Breckner DMD, MS had an attorney call me to "take down" this website. After getting bullied some, I stated that the website stays up. It is my right to post my personal experiences and thus is not slander. When asked "What would it take to delete the website?" I replied that I did not want anything as my only goal was to help other potential patients before they too waste their money. I let the attorney know that asking for ANYTHING would be extortion. It was the first and last time I heard from that Law Firm.
I now have permanent upper and lower full implants from ClearChoice. I am able to eat everything and anything (including steak) without a si
