Harvey L. Levy, MD

Harvey Levy, MD, is a senior physician in medicine in the Division of Genetics and Genomics at Boston Children’s Hospital and a professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. He is an internationally recognized leader in biochemical genetics and newborn screening, with pioneering contributions to the diagnosis, treatment, and understanding of metabolic disorders such as phenylketonuria (PKU), homocystinuria, and disorders of vitamin B12 metabolism. Dr. Levy earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and completed pediatric and pathology training at Boston City Hospital, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, and Johns Hopkins Hospital, followed by fellowship training in metabolism at Massachusetts General Hospital. Over a career spanning more than five decades, he founded and directed the Metabolic Program at Boston Children’s Hospital, helped advance modern newborn screening programs, and led groundbreaking clinical research that transformed care for …children with inherited metabolic diseases worldwide.
