Dr. Harvey Allan Rubenstein, MD

I sought the assistance of Dr. Rubenstein because he is a well known and respected thyroid doctor. Even though my tests were normal, he agreed with me that I needed thyroid hormone which helped me feel back to my normal self.

I have had migraines for the last 5 years, and was hypothyroid. I went to two neurologists, two gynecologists, a functional medicine doctor, an endocrinologist, and I finally decided to go to another endocrinologist because all the others did nothing for me. Nothing. I looked at Dr. Rubenstein's credentials and made an appointment. He told me that the thyroid has nothing to do with my migraines, but he did feel my thyroid, and he must have sensed a nodule. Given that he has a sonogram in his office (which one other doctor in my life had, and this was a great doctor who saved me from a warrantless surgery another doctor wanted to perform), Dr. Rubenstein gave me a sonogram which indicated a nodule that looked concerning to him. He requested that I return for a Fine Needle Aspiration (biopsy), which I did, and it ascertained that I had atypical cells with calcification indicating possible cancer. He sent the pathology off to a diagnostics lab that identified my having the… BRAF genetic mutation which is a strong indicator for cancer. I still sought a second opinion, and eventually went to Johns Hopkins where I had the surgery for total removal of my thyroid. I not only had one papillary cancer tumor, I had a second one behind the left lobe that a sonogram could not detect, plus 3 lymph nodes were cancerous. If I waited a few more years to detect this slow growing cancer which was not rendering any symptoms, I would like have a metastatic cancer that would travel elsewhere in my body, such as the lungs, and give me an inoperable cancer, i.e. I would die. Therefore, if not for Dr. Rubenstein, who with his vast experience and knowledge, cared enough to feel my thyroid and detect that barely discernible nodule, I would keep going to pointless doctors and end up with cancer and ultimately prematurely dead. So I want to say that I will be eternally grateful to Dr. Rubenstein, because I don't think any other doctor I would have seen would have cared to feel my thyroid. Dr. Rubenstein, you exemplify what it what a doctor should be. Thank you so much!

I was very miserable with my hyperthyroidism. I was referred to Doctor Rubenstein who was very professional and kind. He explained my disease and treatment options to me in a very satisfactory manner. I am now feeling much improved and back to my normal self.

I have had diabetes for 20 years and have never has as thorough exam as I hade with Dr. Rubenstein. On the day of my first visit he spent about an hour taking my medical history, doing a thorough examination and did blood work in his office. I received the results in about a half hour. He explained the results and much about my disease which needed attention. His office staff arranged for diet instruction and I have seen him several times for further care during which my insulin program and medicines have been changed. I was also instructed on the use a constant glucose monitor which has very much improved my blood sugars. I have improved greatly and I am feeling much better.

I have been seeing Dr. Rubenstein for many years and my experience has always been most helpful and gratifying. He keeps me aware of the current information about diabetes and I have done very well with my disease.

This was my first visit with Dr. Rubenstein. He was punctual, very professional, caring, and courteous to both myself and my husband. After taking a very thorough history and examination, he explained his impressions and what additional tests were needed. His staff was excellent in helping to get everything done.

This doctor does not communicate and explain things to you. This answers are akin to a politician. He answers your questions and basically tells you nothing. Secondly, this physician is not punctually. You wait at least an hour to just get in to see him and then he only spends 15 minutes tops with you not explaining anything. Third, once you go to him and you find that he is not the physician for you (i.e. you do not get along with him.). You cannot change to any other of the other physicians in the office. The office has an unwritten policy that although they are independent physicians not a group practice, you cannot switch from one doctor in the office to another doctor in the office. If you do decide to go to this doctor's office, pick one of the other physicians to go to!!!!!!! I would rate this doctor zero stars but this program does not allow me.

I was told that my thyroid was underactive several years ago and I had been using thyroid medicine since then. I was referred to Dr. Rubenstein for follow of my thyroid condition. He was very thorough. He talked to me for quite a while, reviewed my old records, examined me and did an ultrasound of my thyroid. He concluded that I probably did not have thyroid disease and I am now doing well without thyroid medications and all those tests and doctors visits.

If I had option of selecting less than 1 overall rating I would have chosen that. His staff is the worst and the most rudest I have ever encountered. If you call they try to cut you and hang up without letting you finish. He never returns your call and it is returned by an untrained staff person who repeats one line answer in response to everything you say. Wait time is on average more than 30 minutes. He is mostly rushed and seems annoyed even in response to simple questions.

My son is short for his age. I was referred to Dr. Rubenstein who found that he is not making enough growth hormone. His staff was excellent in dealing with my insurance company to pay for the growth hormone treatment. My sonâ??s growth is now catching up to his friends.
