Dr. Healy Gottlieb Smith, MD

I have been seeing Dr. Smith for the past three years. I first contacted Dr. Smith, as a second opinion, after my regular doctor prescribed medication, and have continued to follow-up with her. She was open to medication but suggested I start with changing my diet and exercise. She taught me how to make those changes. Her medical advice and suggestions were extremely effective. My symptoms quickly improved and I have been doing well off medication ever since. She was very helpful. I greatly appreciated her caring manner, attentiveness, and the knowledge she has demonstrated. I considered her to be significantly more knowledgeable and up-to-date in her knowledge than my other physician.

Dr. Smith has helped me manage my medications and supplements, and to improve my diet and lifestyle. She is a good listener: she is attentive, caring, thoughtful, thorough, and professional. I have a PhD in physics, and I can tell when people in scientific fields know their stuff by the way they can explain themselves in clear, simple terms. And that they are up-to-date and yet have a healthy degree of skepticism about current areas of research. I found Dr. Smith to be such a doctor in subject areas including medications, mindfulness, microbiome, and diet. Finally, she is a very good motivator; I think this follows from being a good listener and inspiring confidence.

I have found Dr. Smith to be a warm, knowledgeable, compassionate, and thoughtful professional, especially at a particularly vulnerable time in my life dealing with sensitive perinatal issues. During our consultation she was articulate, well-informed, tactful, and patient in answering all of my husband’s and my questions regarding psychopharmacological interventions during pregnancy, which helped me get through a rocky third trimester and go on to deliver a healthy baby boy. She was able to break down technical research data in a palatable and non-alarmist manner, which was crucial during times of high anxiety and much appreciated. Throughout our treatment together her knowledge of functional medicine as well as more holistic mindfulness approaches helped to address my symptoms from a mind-body angle, instead of a more traditional, less flexible, purely psychiatric stance. I am very grateful to have found an eclectic practitioner like Dr. Smith--she is truly a one of a kind!

Dr. Smith is very bright and informed about current medical research. She is, however, very rigid in her approach and her communication can be irregular and off-putting.
