Dr. Heather Lee Hughes, MD

My first visit w. Dr. Hughes was a disappointment as far as his reaction to my problems. I was very depressed and had other issues. He told me to go back to where I moved from which he said was causing the depression. Then he spoke about how obese I was and that nothing could be done to help me until i lost weight ...I am a diabetic and also have COPD. I was not examined. When I went to pick up my insulin the price had increased from 40$ to 300$. I called and asked if there was a substitute at a lesser price. I did not get a reply and when I called again found that the nurse was on vacation and there would be no response for another week, if then. There was no one else in the office that could help. My blood sugar was 253 and no insulin!! I then called my previous wonderful doctor in San Diego who immediately is solving my problem. When I asked a friend for a referral here and mentioned Hughes she said do not go to him, he is a terrible doctor. Unfortunately I did go.

I was trying to get a prescription refilled. I called the pharmacy to see if it was ready. They told me the doctor hadn't authorized it yet. I called the office and spoke to the nurse who told me she had. Called the pharmacy and got the same response. This song and dance went on for a week and I was out of my meds and needed them! I finally left a voicemail for the nurse in which I was very upset and frustrated and asked her to please call the pharmacy and figure it out because I was out of my asthma medication and needed it now, and was sick and tired of screwing around! I got a registered letter the next workday telling me that sometimes patients and doctors are not a good match, and she was giving me 30 days to find another doctor! I'm sure it was because I asserted myself, and demanded that they take care of business, which was perfectly reasonable for me to do after a week's worth of getting nowhere. If you are the kind of person that wants to be a partner and have a say in your… health with your doctor, forget Dr. Heather Hughes.
