Dr. Heather Marie Hilty, DO

Please do not trust this office. Dr. Hilty is careless and unethical, and she is not looking out for her patients’ best interests. She is only concerned about her own agenda. Dr. Hilty is willing to continue pushing chemotherapy treatments after patient has undergone whole-brain radiation, has limited time (weeks to live) and she refuses to work cooperatively with MD Anderson’s highly respected oncology and radiology staff. Instead, she sows seeds of doubt while pressuring her patients by offering false hope to take more chemo, even though she knows it will ultimately harm them! Dr. Hilty is not upfront or honest with patients. We had to fight for appropriate care, even though given only weeks to live, Dr. Heather Hilty still wanted to move forward with more toxic treatments—it truly felt like something out of a made-for-TV movie or documentary. Absolutely unbelievable. She ordered toxic medicine and scheduled intravenous treatment appointments without appropriate clearance—and… without reviewing an MRI when brain METS presented. No concern with test results to drive decision making. Another issue is when Dr. Hilty knew the cancer had metastasized to the brain for two months and neglected to inform us. No one should have to end up in the emergency room only to find out the last PET scan from two months ago, clearly showed evidence of cancer in the brain and had innumerable tumors. Your oncology team should be the one to deliver this terrible news, not an ER doctor, again, absolutely horrific experience! Dr. Hilty’s actions are more than ethically questionable, considering she knew about the metastasizing into the brain and continued a series of treatments, knowing that it would increase the inflammation! These ethical and moral issues, are big concerns, so please, I beg of you to go elsewhere for treatments! Given the negligence that has occurred, she should not be trusted ethically to hold a medical license. Our family will absolutely pursue legal options for retribution, as well as contact the director of Sacred Heart to file a formal complaint. As our hopes are to prevent this atrocity from happening to another family! For Dr. Hilty to have the audacity to continue pushing toxic treatments on someone who is clearly dying, instead of helping to arrange palliative / hospice care, is morally and ethically wrong. She refused to write the order! Ignoring a request for hospice is one thing, but ignoring a legally binding document and medical power of attorney another. Dr Hilty’s attempt to intimidate us with the presence of hospital security is inexcusable. Do not trust this office and do not proceed with any type of treatment under Dr. Hilty’s care. Additionally, be very cautious—because even if you have a power of attorney and medical power of attorney in place, this doctor seems to believe she is above the law and above the rights of her patients and their families. This office will do everything possible to manipulate their way around the law, even if it means bringing in hospital security to try to intimidate and strong-arm families. Well, it didn’t work and she chose the wrong family to mess with. Please trust me—as someone who has personally witnessed these unethical practices over the years, I strongly urge you to seek treatment elsewhere and avoid Sacred Heart. Your best option is to go to MD Anderson and check yourself into the emergency room. MD Anderson will always advocate for patients and their families, even when Dr. Hilty will not.

she is the reason I went from stage 1 to stage 4. really hate her

cares more for her hair than her patients. ignored my complaints until I turned stage 4 under her care.Told I had a year to live. went to Hillman and going strong. Found out she is not a md but a do.
