Dr. Heather Andrus Pacheco, MD

Let me start by saying I'm not sure if Dr. Pacheco has anything to do with this or if this is simply the atrocious billing department of Johns Hopkins. However, I went to Dr. Pacheco for a routine preventative skin cancer screening. No questions or concerns at the visit- my mom has melanoma and I had not had a check in a few years. My health insurance plan does cover a skin cancer screening performed by a dermatologist once per year that does not require a copay or me to pay towards my deductible. To my surprise I received a bill for this visit. I called my insurance who attempted to get the office to send a revised claim, but was denied. I then called the billing department and was told "dermatologists do not provide preventative services and cannot bill for such. This can only be done by primary care doctors and OBGYNs." I have seen several dermatologists over my life. I have never been told dermatologists do not bill for preventative skin cancer screenings. Who performs them if not… a dermatologist!? Unless you have an actual dermatologic issue that needs treatment, I would steer clear of this office and all Johns Hopkins dermatologists for any routine skin cancer screenings.

After 2 years of suffering from a painful skin condition and going from dermatologist to dermatologist and even to allergists who rushed through appointments, barely listened or glanced at my skin, and only prescribed expensive, ineffective ointments, i grew more and more ill and exhausted. Finally I found Dr. Pacheco. Thank God. She listened and paid attention to what I had to say, spent time actually examining my skin (can you believe it?), answered my questions, and prescribed antibiotics that finally restored my health. Dr. Pacheco is direct and focused. I am so very grateful to have found this qualified, caring doctor.

I have seen Dr. Pacheco for many years. She is helpful, kind and thorough. She never misses anything in my yearly skin cancer screening exam.

Dr Pacheco is responsible for finding a melanoma in very early stages. Very competent and thorough doctor. Follow up care is top notch.
