Dr. Hedva Shamir, MD

Like be treated by a robot.

I visited Interfaith Medical Center (Bedford-Stuyvesant) last month for excruciating abdominal, stomach pains. "Dr." Shamir was the Attending Physician in the Emergency Room. After a 2.5 hour wait time, following by an X-ray and CT scan, I received updates from fellow nurses the report would generate (in no more than a half hour) and the doctor would follow up with results. An hour passed and I kept my patience, understanding COVID-19 patients were of utmost priority. When a collective three hours went by, I re-informed the nurses no doctor had read my results nor checked in. In a total of 5.5 hours, I sat in excruciating pain leading me to believe it was appendicitis or severe food poisoning. In this time, I received zero treatment and zero pain relief/medication. Two of the nurses on-staff quietly shared with myself and my partner this was common practice this doctor exhibited and apologized on her and the hospital's behalf. After demanding I received the CT report, Shamir… approached my bedside and insisted my medical notes for the day stated I received a morphine drip (completely false, currently disputing this claim with my insurance). Shamir went on to state the CT report was inconclusive and could not determine the cause of abdominal pain. After accepting the malpractice exhibited by Shamir, my partner and I demanded a discharge and would seek medical attention elsewhere. Finally Shamir physically tossed a copy of the report, landing at my lap before silently walking away. Previewing the report, CT scan showed "no findings to suggest acute appendicitis," determining the origin of the pains stemmed from a food poisoning. Not only was Dr. Hedva Shamir negligent, but completely unjustified in her medical treatment, or rather lack of. Please note I do not commonly leave reviews, but a rating such as above is warranted by a medical personnel such as herself. This type of authority at a medical facility reflects poorly on the establishment itself. Interfaith should follow up with action to correct its wrongdoing for future care seekers.
