Dr. Heidi Chamberlai Shea, MD

I encountered some of the same troubles as the other one-star reviews. However, I have no problem with the doctor's personality as they do( I did not get to know her well). Though, the long time waits (something that can be devastating with these sicknesses) and lack of diagnosis or even trying to find one left me in distress. Of course, I am no expert in these problems, but it appalled me that they hadn't even tested for one of the most common causes of my illness. She also sends other people to talk to her patients. I do not know who these people are, but I do not find them helpful because, during my last appointment, I said my symptoms(all related to the illness I was there to have treated) had worsened, and they said nothing but to come again in the next four months because my labs looked fine. I do not recommend using this service due to their lack of answers and consistency.

I am very excited after my initial visit with Dr. Shea today. She was very understanding of the mental fatigue a chronic condition can entail (type 1 diabeties in my case). The whole team was exceptional and were very thorough with their understanding of my personal health goals, my needs as a diabetic, I am excited about how our partnership will lead better management of my diabeties mentally and physically.

Dr. Shea is a rare find. She is deeply committed to her patients thriving and not just surviving their medical chaos. While I did have an initial visit similar to some of the reviews here, I am SO GLAD I trusted her credentials to come back. I have now been under her care for 3 years and I can speak to her capacity and compassion. To start- I am not a typical endocrine patient. I have subclinical labs which most Endo's would not even schedule me to discuss. Dr. Shea is well researched, she is thinking over a thousand differentials while examining you and has an incredible memory for tiny details most providers miss. Her staff is competent and caring (shout out Val, you rock!) and they will go to bat for you to get you into other specialist needed to treat conditions she found that other MD's missed. I won't see another endocrinologist and when my 5 year old special needs son needed to be checked for a thyroid nodule, she was both patient and playful and made him feel safe in a… setting he is has come to hate due to his many health issues. At the end of the day, my family juggles a lot of chronic health stuff. I don't need my providers to be cute and cuddly, I need them to be exceptional. Dr. Shea is a triple threat: exceptional, compassionate and runs her office with an attitude of service and commitment to care.

If you're a robot, Dr. Shea is the doctor for you. If you are an actual person with time commitments and FEELINGS, I would suggest going elsewhere. I waited for nearly an hour for Dr. Shea to visit with me, and while going over my lab work she hardly made eye contact with me. She was obviously rushing through my appointment, and diagnosed me in the most unfeeling way with a disease that will greatly impact me for the rest of my life. She then acted annoyed when I was asking questions about my disease. I cried in the car for nearly twenty minutes before I was fit to drive home. WORST APPOINTMENT OF MY LIFE.

Completely indifferent to my problems. Only cares about what the numbers on the blood tests reveal and does not address patient concerns. Dr. Shea has the worst bedside manner of any doctor I have ever seen. I was checking out and heard/saw her scheduling people mocking the patient on the phone. When you leave the doctor sobbing, it's time to find a new doctor.

After waiting months to be seen, and what felt like longer in an exam room, Dr. Shea spent very few hast minutes visiting with me. She was exasperated when I would ask questions. Would not return to her if she were the last endo on earth.

I was so hopeful for answers, and Dr. Shea (after keeping me waiting for over an hour and a half) rushed through my appointment and was irritated with me for not knowing anything about the conditions with which she had barely diagnosed me. I will never go back to her. Ever. I'm amazed there are people who do.

Very cold and uncaring. She is rude and has a cold manner with children. She is almost abusive to my child and absolutely does not care about his well being. I am searching for a new endocrinologist because I just cannot take this doctor anymore.

I would NOT recommend this doctor. Follow up is non-existent. They promise follow up phone calls but don't deliver. Lab work goes weeks if not months with no follow up despite numerous calls to try to get results. We've given the benefit of the doubt way too long. This office is NOT reliable.
