Dr. Helen Yuk Yu Chang, MD

Stay away from her...ruined my chances of having a child!

My two children were both delivered by Helen. She is someone who I consider a friend as were as an extraordinary physician. I had such difficulty getting pregnant necessitating four infertility surgeries for endometriosis which she performed. Those seemed unsuccessful so she assisted me in the adoption process. When I did get pregnant, she delayed her wedding in Hong Kong to be there for the delivery. Sadly, I lost my next child, but my next child she delivered despite her being greatly pregnant herself! Yes, my two kids are 33 and 28, but time won't erase the memories of her kindness, expertise, and humanity. While I can't speak to her office decor or the office scheduling or payment methods, I mean, who cares as long as things get done and with great skill and kindness, I can speak to her skill. She is remarkable.

I was referred to her by my primary after having a blood test confirming I was pregnant. Unfortunately at almost 6 weeks I started spotting and had cramps. I came in, had to wait 30 mins until being called back. My mom and I went into her office and she never introduced herself or looked up from her paper while drilling with questions. We then moved into the exam room to get an ultrasound. She just looked at the screen, and said "I see nothing, looks like you miscarried". I was heart broken. She didn't explain anything to me, just acted like it was no big deal, she cleaned up amd started walking out while I was trying to ask questions!! Horrible horrible experience....it's sad enough having a mustache but being treated like crap made it so much worse. I'm changing DR. Stay clear of her!!!

The doctor and the staff are rude. We had a prescription filled that our insurance did not want to pay for so the pharmacist filled something else and kept our original prescription. We tried to fill it again but couldn't I contacted the doctor and staff to refill the prescription and they accused me of losing it. Eventually they relented and called the pharmacy to fill the prescription. We do not intend on ever returning to this office.

Doctor has very poor bed side manners. She doesn't listen. She doesn't show any interest in your care. She doesn't read records AT ALL if they are from another doctor. She doesn't look at your eyes, only in her ONE paper. She asks same questions multiple times in spite of the fact that those question were already answered multiple times and then shows attitude that it is too much to handle for her. She forgets to write prescriptions and medical assistant does it for her. She doesn't complete referral process at all. She doesn't explain ANYTHING at all. She is still in "stone age" with medical records. Front desk asks questions on front of others that completely violate your HIPPA contract with them.

I have been going to Dr. Chang since I moved here 28 years ago. She has helped me through fertility issues, pregnancy, C-section, menopause, fibroids and a hysterectomy. She is the kindest, most caring doctor and is very thorough. I appreciate that she calls me herself with test results even though she is very busy. She presents treatment options as well. She is probably my favorite doctor of all my specialists and primary doctors over the years.

My husband and I have lived in 5 different states for the births of our 5 children. Dr.Helen Chang has been my favorite OB-gyn, very warm & knowledgeable; answers all my questions. She is Very Busy though due to her popularity. She was recommended to me by several women when I moved to Poway 14 years ago. A few years back I was having pain and non-stop bleeding for 4 months and she sent me in for several tests and scans. I was diagnosed with adenomyosis and she went over several options with me. I ended up opting for a partial hysterectomy and the surgery went very well. I was surprised at how little pain I had. No scarring as she went in through the belly button. I am amazed at how quickly I healed. The nurses at the hospital also assured me that I had the most wonderful surgeon in Dr. Chang. If you want to know how good a doctor is speak with the nurses at any hospital. She also called me at home to see how I was doing after the birth of our last child and also a few… days after my surgery to check up on me which I thought was nice. I always go to my check ups. I have been very pleased with Dr. Chang and her staff all these years. Sorry to hear that others have not been.

I have been seeing Dr Chang for 12 years now. I had my first child with her and had no complaints, but am now pregnant with my second child and have been a bit dissatisfied. I would say I like Dr Chang a lot but that her staff is the problem!! I called about a question regarding my pregnancy in between visits and the receptionist was the one telling me what to do. I don't want medical advice from her, I want them to ask the Dr and call me back. I had to insist after a few times of calling and the problem not getting resolved to talk to the Dr. Another time, the office was packed and I had to sit far over in the corner. I signed in on their sheet that they really don't use but after 45 minutes of waiting in the lobby the nurse finally said something to the receptionist "Is she here?" I then responded by saying I had been there for 45 minutes! The receptionist couldn't see me so she just figured I wasn't there. Total space cadet!! Look at your sign in sheet. Also, I had missed a copay… one appointment because I forgot my checkbook and didn't have cash (they don't take credit cards). Then my next visit they told me I owed them 3 copays. I swore I was current except for that 1 copay but I didn't have proof. When I asked what the others were for the receptionist said she didn't have an invoice but would call me and let me know....and she never called me. I finally got an invoice another month later and just paid it because I couldn't prove I was current when I paid cash. I now only pay with checks!Dr. Chang is a nice lady but I think she is so busy that she doesn't take enough time to explain things or tell you what you should be expecting at certain stages of pregnancy. After I give birth next month I am switching to a different OB. I am sick of all the little problems that have occurred over this pregnancy.

worst doctor I ever seen. she should not continue her profession as a doctor , that too as an OB. she is a money minded person. She is so awkward and rude while handling the patients. the moment you say that you are going to different city due to job relocation , then she never talks to you , never update you on any thing, her face will turns like a donkey and treat you very rudely. I highly wont recommend her to any one.I should not give not even 1 star

She delivered my first child and I have come back to her for my twins. She is really a great dr. She cares about your needs and has tons of info for you. As long as you are ontime for you appointment you get right in. All the office staff is helpful and nice! Go see her she is the best.
