Dr. Helen Siaolan Kao, MD

This review is based on Dr. Kao's care of our parent in San Francisco, Ca. she likes to have private meetings with her patients each time she see's them and does not allow family members in the room during that time, what we failed to understand is that she is determining how much medical care the patient wants overall and under certain circumstances, which dictates her treatment, tests that are being done and referrals to specialists for more serious medical issues. After 4 years our father had a serious hospitalization that was very difficult because of her treatment beliefs, there was basic testing that had not been done, several conditions like osteoporosis, low blood pressure which had never been treated that was now causing serious problems and has done so much damage it can't be undone, so our father is suffering more. None of this was explained to him nor was it brought up while we were present in the room to help explain it to our father and make sure his wishes were being… followed. He has a very low level of medical knowledge. Our whole family has suffered because of her head strong treatment practices, so be careful if she is your parents doctor. She has done wonderful things to bring care into the home for homebound elderly patients.
