Dr. Helen Elizabeth Shaha, MD

Dr. Shaha has been my general practitioner for several years now and I have only successfully been able to schedule an appointment with her perhaps 3 times. The few times I have been able to meet with her, she mispronounces my name, is completely unfamiliar with my medical history, and I kid you not, upon my coming in to see her about miscarriage symptoms she walked into the exam room and with the door still wide open says "Good news, you aren't pregnant" which was not only a sensitive subject, but what I would consider a private matter for behind closed doors. She then proceeded to dismiss all of my concerns and symptoms and said that my pain levels and history of ovarian cysts and family history of ovarian and cervical cancers were nothing to be concerned about. It took me nearly a month to get seen at her office, even with serious symptoms. I was given absolutely poor information about their facilities and told to drive over 45 minutes away from home to be treated at another… facility. After 3 months of extreme frustration, I finally forcefully requested a referral to a specialist OB/Gyn and it turns out that every one of my concerns was valid. I did indeed miscarry. I had endometriosis, and recurring cysts and ended up having to have surgery. I cannot stress enough how completely dissatisfied I am with this woman's conduct and commitment to her patients. I have left her office crying in frustration on more than one occasion, and I am hoping that my experience will help others avoid that feeling of disappointment.

Dr. Burbank-Schmitt is very friendly and courteous. Her mannerisms and caring nature make up for her inexperience. I would definitely recommend her to a friend. She and I can relate, and I can talk openly with her.
