Dr. Helene M Keable, MD

In 2026, I imagine you are likely reading reviews of Dr. Keable for one of three reasons: you’re a student who has been assigned treatment with her; you had your first session and something felt off; or maybe you are here to write a review yourself. For the last reason, I strongly encourage you to do so: my single biggest regret was not listening to what the 10 people below this review had to say. And if your experience is any different, by all means, please correct the record. Everyone’s experiences are different, and it’s important to relay that. But I will say, reader, that it would be wise to take the consistency of her behavior over years as a clear, close-to-unequivocal sign to stay away from Dr. Helene Keable. Consider finding someone else. It is my belief that you lose more, in time and psychologically, by staying with her than by restarting care elsewhere altogether. Most of what people said below rings true to my experience, with the exception of the single five-star review… and others’ experiences with her tardiness; she was on time for my appointments. Keable is circular in her arguments and advice. One could attribute it to style if it were not for the fact that she is straight-up rude and mean-- not direct, I emphasize, rude and mean. This is worsened by the fact that she finds questions threatening. Over time, I, too, have come to notice that she finds solace and comfort in self-indulgence; compliments shift her demeanor like a switch. I am not the first in this thread to note that she is not knowledgeable about well-documented psychiatric conditions or pharmacological options. She readily dismisses existing research, readily available information, and other professionals. She does not listen; she projects and deflects; she raises her voice. All of this is still true. Again, please, if your experience was any different, take some time to say so. I have never written a review of a doctor, and my worry is that doing so could somehow hurt someone who perhaps is having a good impact on others’ lives, which just didn’t feel right to me. I feel empowered by everyone else over the years, though, to speak up, because what is described here seems like an ongoing pattern rather than a matter of taste or fit. I am appalled that the university likely knows this and continues to channel students to her. The single worst thing you can do to a student is put them through the seemingly never-ending experience of enduring weekly sessions with this doctor, who knows no empathy, no bedside manner, and, even more worrisome, little respect for the field she practices in. It is a net negative on one's mental health. Please. This is your sign. Cancel your meeting now. Thank you for reading.

She's very rude, has no empathy. Gets annoyed with you everytime you ask for something, even if it's something you have the right to ask for. Thinks she has all the answers and if she doesn't agree with what you say she'll just frame that as you having "limited insight".

Dr. Keable is one of the worst healthcare professionals I have ever seen. She does not listen, makes faces at your answers and disagrees with what you say about yourself. The only answers she will accept are what she come up with. She also spends part of the appointment talking about herself and why she is a good doctor. I felt belittled and coerced into continuing treatment with her. She also clearly does not have the necessary training for dealing with eating disorders. Rude, aggressive, coercive. and self-important. Also extremely reluctant to use or alter pharmacotherapy.

The below reviews are all correct. Stubborn in her beliefs about why you feel a certain way, aggressive, and confrontational. Bases all of her observations on a survey that she has you fill out about how you feel, and then criticizes you for your responses–even telling you that you chose a response you did not. Run away.

Dr. Keable is very slow in initiating proper pharmacotherapy treatment. My friend who is her patient has a very clear picture of MDD, and I told her that the she should see a clinician and go through a trial of a SSRI. Instead, Dr. Keable wasted three weeks and then prescribed her for 1week of benzos (think getting a bandaid for a fracture). If you need help for a mental illness, please seek a proper psychiatrist that has a good medical understanding and can actually give you help.

She is often late to appointments and usually asks you to leave before the time is up. She does not listen and has widely incorrect information in my medical records. Only reason I requested my medical records because she was not clear and upfront with any diagnosis but she was prescribing medication that was impossible to get refilled or changed because she never answered the phone or constantly kept rescheduling appointments. Do not call her in times of crisis she most likely will not answer or dismiss your needs. I'd be surprised if she's never been written up for malpractice of some sort. Avoid her if at ALL possible.

I was under Dr. Keable's care for symptoms of anxiety from 2009-2011, during a very difficulty period in my life due to multiple stressors. Dr. Keable's guidance helped me to manage my anxiety more effectively, with minimal use of pharmacotherapy. She was consistently thoughtful, flexible with scheduling, and gave ample time during sessions. Would return someday if I needed to do so.

Quick to raise her voice. Little ability to listen or have a dialogue. Insisted on putting my name incorrectly on prescriptions and told me it was my problem that I wanted my name to be correct and continued to write the wrong name in. She seemed more invested in being right about me than in my feeling better. At times she was downright mean, and not in a helpful "tough love" way--just mean. She kept on with a course of therapy that was clearly not working and refused outside consultations or second opinions. Desperately tried to convince me to stay in treatment with free sessions (even though it seemed like she really disliked me.) I really tried hard to make the treatment work for me, but the best thing I ever did was leave. Since being in treatment with another, more capable, kind, flexible and sane psychiatrist, and as a result having my life change dramatically for the better, I can now see how truly terrible Dr. Keable treated me and how she actually worsened my health… dramatically for a sadly long period of time. I'm sorry that I allowed it happen for so long. I hope no one else has to go through what I went through with her.
