Dr. Hemashi K. Perera, MD

Dr. Perera has been my OB for the 4 years+ and I and I trust her implicitly. She’s kind, thorough, and caring. For example, last year when I called the office to cancel my ultrasound after I miscarried, she called me back almost immediately (I’m guessing right after she got the news) and made sure I understood that it wasn’t my fault. She was so compassionate and I found it really lovely that she called straight away to see how I was doing. She also had me keep the original appointment so she could make sure my body was recovering properly. And when I became pregnant again, she was very patient and understanding of the extra anxiety I had, especially early on in the pregnancy. She’s never made me feel small or invalidated my feelings and I’m really grateful she’ll be delivering my baby. A few things to note: - She’s super responsive whether by phone or the patient portal. I’ve never had a question go unanswered. - She’s a bit of a fast talker. I am too so I hadn’t really noticed… until another reviewer mentioned it but it’s definitely true. It’s nothing to be concerned with but I could see someone mistaking her natural speech pattern for her trying to rush you. She’s not—She just speaks quickly. - Write down your questions ahead of time. I would say this for any doctor but again, because she moves through things quickly, it definitely helps to have a list of questions prepped and ready. She will always take the time to answer each one and doesn’t get annoyed at a long list. - She doesn’t sugar coat. I prefer this in a doctor but if you’re looking for someone to be gentle with the truth, she might not be for you. To be clear, she’s not harsh or anything just a straight shooter, which again, I like. - This goes back to speed but she doesn’t spend a whole lot of time with you. Now, that’s not a complaint AT ALL but I’ve seen a few reviewers mention feeling rushed. I would instead call her efficient. She doesn’t waste or mince words but she also doesn’t cut corners so if you have a question or concern, say something. She’ll take care of you.

Hemashi Perera should not practice! Her medical license has be taken away! A year ago I went for a routine check up, and I showed her a large lymph in my groin area. She examined it, and said it was no big deal. Her exact wording was " that lymph nodes are normal part of the body, and my lymph node is the same as getting a cold and finding slightly enlarged lymph nodes on your neck". She didn't even let me know to get a biopsy. Now I found out that I have cancer in my lymph nodes. So basically because of her incompetency I walked with cancer a whole year. Per my oncologist if Perera sent me to get a biopsy the cancer would be slow but since I waited a year my cancer is aggressive. Perera went to IVY League schools. It just shows that to get into and IVY schools you don't need to be smart! You could get in if you pay a lot of money. Her family paid a lot of money for her to get her diplomas! She is an incompetent person, and should be AVOIDED LIKE A PLAGUE! If you care about your… health, RUN FROM HEMASHI PERERA!

She was working different location when I delivered my baby however she came just to see me the next day how I’m doing & my baby ,never met an excellent doctor like her & she cares for her patients so much , I really recommend her to everyone ??.

She knows her stuff but you will feel like you are rushed out of her office every single appointment. I am pregnant and my appointment lasts for no more than 5-7 minutes. She is giving you information for you to remember while she is doing your check up. You will forget all your questions if you do not write them down beforehand as she talks REALLY fast. If you like slow paced appointments then you wont like her. There is no wait time if you show up on time.

I have been a patient of Dr. Perera since 2016. She was my OBGYN during my two pregnancies. Dr. Perera is the most professional, caring, and trusting doctor I, and my husband, have ever met. There aren’t enough wonderful words that can decribe how much of a great doctor she is. We are extremely grateful and appreciative to her and her staff for the care they provided us during my pregnancies. I moved to NJ after my first child and commuted into the city for my second pregnancy because we wanted her to take care of us during my second pregnancy. It is comforting to know that there are doctors that patients can fully trust. Dr. Perera is definitely one of them.

Honestly, she is fantastic. I like her because she is straight forward, but not cold. She will reach out if she has any news and I receive my results quickly. I've had several OB/GYNs over the years for various reasons, but she is by far my favorite one.

I would recommend a more experienced doctor. As a health care professional myself I did not take much thought into looking at reviews of Physicians prior to selecting since I was not considered high risk. However the past 2 visits have proven to be an unfortunate mistake. To sum it up I found her to be lazy, dismissive, and not a holistic type of Physician. Comparing my experience with the experience of my peers and colleagues it is troubling since with my first pregnancy you have alot of concerns and want the best outcome for your child. Unfortunately I am late in my pregnancy and can not switch. My lab levels in initial visit showed I had mild anemia, I requested twice for prescribed prenatal vitamins with iron and she refused. Almost 5 months later my lab levels were approximately the same and she then prescribed for me vitamin C and Ferrous Sulfate. I do not have immunity to a particular virus-CMV and I work with alot of patients in which I work with Doctors on call to help… diagnose new conditions based on their symptoms, presentations, and lab results. I no longer work full-time in a hospital setting, so many times when I am in a patients residence I have no idea what they have. Although I take proper standard precautions as a pregnant woman I still could still be exposed and acquire the virus. I made her aware that I would like to have lab drawn again for the virus in about 35+ weeks which I am approaching soon since I am constantly exposed to alot alot of sick patients I work in Hospice/Palliative Care. She stated it is not indicated and if I have CMV I would have signs, the patient would have had a rash, and blah blah, blah. I know that Patients with CMV typically show no signs/symptoms and that contracting it during pregnancy has bad outcomes for newborns and it could be passed on in utero through placenta, breast milk and etc. I had to beg her to agree about the lab draw. Amongst two other trival things I noticed during my visits there. To be fair she is young, has a good demeanor, the office and ultrasound technicians are professional. The wait time is not very long. As a healthcare professional I always take the position to sit in the seat of a patient as if I dont know anything, not a Mrs. Knowitall. I work with physicians on a regular every day basis and signs of a good physician is to be informed, inform the patient, educate, understand the concerns, and to analyze patient's history, (work, health, and etc.), to make certain that best outcome for whatever procedure will be most likely occur. In my late trimester I have lost faith in her ability as a OB/GYN and unfortunately finding it too late to switch which is a source of stress.
