Dr. Henry Clay Hooker, MD

Dr. Hooker held my referral on his desk for more than 3 months while he “considered my case.” It was his office staff that explained to me that was the process and I couldn’t be scheduled until the doctor decided whether or not to see me. Another 2 months pass during this time my headaches intensified and I was finally referred to another neurologist. While Dr. Hooker pondered my case, the intercranial hypertension I suffered from intensified. The vision loss from optic nerve impingement is permanent. Thanks Dr. Hooker.

Dr. Hooker specializes in Migraines, and is one of the few doctors in the country who is a certified headache specialist. He listens intently to me, and spends ample time while I'm there. I'm very pleased!

It's really difficult to change Drs. I moved here after years with established life and doctors in California. Finding a battery of docs to pick up all the pieces to manage healthcare is tough. Dr. Hooker took the time to review my records - listen to me and we worked out a plan to keep my chronic migraines at bay. He's kind and he enjoys a chuckle too - he has worked to improve the lessening of my battle with headaches for which I'm greatful. I overheard Dr. Hooker making disparaging remarks about me to an office worker after my visit in his Oak Ridge office. I am not a medical worker so I ask many questions. It made me uncomfortable since he is the most experienced Dr. In the area for my condition.

I have chronic migraines for 28 yrs. Thought be a blessing to see Dr. Hooker. In the beginning he told me he would not work with my pain doctor, he had one he works with that could resolve my migraines since I have neck pain to. well the new pain doctor didn't do any thing different from my old pain doctor. Then he sent me to a dentist that had found new migraine triggers. I thought okay I do what Dr. Hooker says even though I thought why he was suppose to be the specialist. turns out I was just past along to give this Dentist $100 cash, he did non thing but put his fingers in my mouth and ask if this hurts when he push. I don't have dental problems. Dr. hooker did give me several preventive medication at one time, it had my mind messed up, i didn't know my yes from a no. I looked the meds up and they were for different type migraines. so I stop taking some of them and tried them one at a time. none helped. For treating a migraine when I had one, the medication worked but having them… frequently I could not use but twice week but he wrote I abused the medication it was not a narcotic but he wrote her over use is causing her continue migraines. That is not true. I also had occipital shots before by other neuro and didn't hurt a bit. Dr.Hooker's was torture, he say don't move and you want to scream. I let him do it twice and it was the same. I felt the needle being pressed down. I wonder if he enjoyed it causes i told him it how it felt and what i thought he did, He said come on. I never let him do it again. He never would change my medication when i said it was hurting my stomach. He does not interact with patients. Its his way that's it. Better check to see what he writes in his patient notes because he creates things that didn't happen and I was his patient for four years. He sent me to MHNC. That place writes up stuff so you can be a patient, said I over use aspirin because you have to fill out form what medications you tried. It would be easy to stop if that's the case. I cured myself. Don't go there. Any neurologist can do what they did.Then the last year Dr. Hooker let me go cause he couldn't help me. I refused to go back to MHNC. He is a narcissist.His staff are rude and make not only me feel unwelcome but I watched other people interact with them. The people on this site that praise him, its because he likes the ones that he can help. It feeds his narcissistic personality. I think he can help some as people stated. He is trying to create his own MHNC and Diamond clinic and it may not be for money but a lot people can not afford these clinics. But the dentist thing was a rip off and I did what he said. Never thought I give up chocolate & tea, coke soda. So the diet thing did help cause if I partake of the above items the migraine follows. For a doctor is sure is mute, comes in says this what your taking walks out. Same every visit even if you say its cause health problems. He will never document that you have any sign effects. Says patient tolerates medications. On His protocol all well, Its the patient failing. Good luck I hope it works for you.

Dr. Hooker is the first neurologist to actually be able to help my migraines go away.I love him!

If this man is a Christian then who is his God? He is judgmental & MEAN! He makes an assumption about you at first site & plays God by judging! Hope the man never has a migraine himself because I AM compassionate and I do not judge. Be prepared for the devil if you see him.

In 2 visits, Dr. Hooker has done more for my chronic migraines. Than any other Doctor has since I was 8 years old. I will forever owe him the gratitude he deserves for caring and getting to the real bottom of the situation!
